Practical Parenting Strategies-Peter Borda

Where do emotions come from?

Emotions arise at the point where the body meets the mind. An emotion is the bodies reaction to thought. Eg anger is the bodies reaction to a threatening thought, the body is preparing to fight and so we feel anger. My Personal Trainer used to suggest (rightly so) that I would need to get angry in order to lift the heavier weight. In that case anger is used constructively you could say.

Have you ever had your mind race? Where you can’t seem to turn it off? Essentially your thoughts are uncontrolled and therefore your body is on a roller coaster of emotion that doesn’t seem able to be slowed. This can be totally energy sapping! You have most likely felt this a few times, or a hundred!!!

So the key to conserving and directing energy constructively is to discipline our thinking, to control our thoughts.

Our mind is a tool to be used for a purpose and then set down when no longer needed.

But the action of thinking becomes such a part of our IDENTITY that if we ever stop thinking, who are we? This can be a very un-nerving thought to stop thinking but is also an essential step in order to find the peace and happiness so many of us seek.

Be patient with yourself. Know that your emotions are in your life to teach you something. Lift your sight. Exercise mature judgement and see the world and life as a game to play, not a gamble but understand there are rules that apply to human life. When you learn the rules (also known as the truth) and play by them (align yourself with the truth) you will have stacks more fun and happiness

can become your lifestyle
