“ Only buildings that achieve a 6 Star rating using NatHERS accredited software can claim to be ‘6 Star’. If a building has achieved compliance using any other method... then it cannot claim that it is a ‘6 Star’ building.” – Building Commission, Government of Western Australia

September 2012

The 6 Star energy rating was introduced by the Government in May 2011 to encourage home builders like Commodore Homes to design energy effi cient homes for our future.

For you, this also means real savings off your energy bills.

That’s because a 6 Star NatHERS accredited home not only takes into consideration your lot orientation but will also incorporate any materials necessary to achieve a minimum 6 Star rating.

Here’s another 6 good reasons why you should demand a NatHERS 6 Star home

When can a new home be labelled6 Stars?

Higher level of energy effi ciency

6 Star energy rating as standard

Less impact on the environment by reducing your carbon footprint

Better resale value in the future

Reduces artifi cial cooling/heating

Uses around 24%* less energy on heating and cooling compared to a 4 or 5 Star home

Don’t just ask for 6 Stars, demand it!The Building Code of Australia (BCA) has outlined a comprehensive strategy to encourage new homes to be built to a NatHERS 6 Star energy effi ciency rating.

Commodore Homes has taken the lead in Western Australia and is committed to designing and building new homes that guarantee to meet the NatHERS 6 Star energy rating.

That’s because at Commodore Homes, we believe in future-proofi ng your investment – giving you a home that’s effi ciently designed, sustainably built, and the very best you can get for your family’s future.

CAUTION

In regards to approval methods other than a NatHERS 6 Star rating, the Building Commission stated in 2013 that, “There are other ways of gaining compliance and approval for energy effi ciency [such as via VURB] and although these aim to be equivalent to 6 Star, this is not always the case. Therefore it is possible for your house to meet the BCA requirements but not be rated 6 Star” – Building Commission, 2013.

CAUTION

Further, the CSIRO in July 2017 issued a caution against using VURB where NatHERS software is used as the reference guide. In these circumstances, the CSIRO said that it “…may lead to poor comfort and energy performance in the fi nished dwelling.” – CSIRO, 2017.
