Why Horses sleep while standing

Long ago, Horse always slept on his back. Every night, Mouse would come and look at his hooves in fascination. They were as detailed as your fingerprints.

One day, Horse fell asleep in a meadow of flowers. Right next to a very tall rosebush.

Mouse couldn’t find Horse anywhere in the barn, so he searched.

While Mouse was looking, he accidentally rustled the rosebush! A thorn fell on Horse’s hoof, and he awoke and stood up.

“OOOWWW!” yelled Horse. He ran back to the barn to pull out the thorn. “Oh no!” said Mouse.

To this day, Horse sleeps while standing to prevent harm to his hooves.
