What happens to us when we die? The answer we provide will determine how we chart the course of our existence. It will also determine whether the Second Coming of Christ will be of any concern to us. For many, life is simply a random occurrence with no significant intenon or meaning about it. For these people, their eventual death, and the end of the earth as they know it, have lile importance beyond their personal consequences. But, for people of faith our natural death and the Second Coming of Christ have huge implicaons. It is to these things that our faith speaks volumes and can bring a keen understanding and direcon that the secular world simply cannot provide. This is where the call to vigilance and the primordial virtues of faith, hope, & love become useful and meaningful. We are works in progress who can either resist the inspiraons of the Divine Arst or give into the wonderful surprising creavity of His will. Ive gone for 30 years now,he wrote, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I cant remember a single one of them. So, I think Im wasting my time and the preachers are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all. This started a controversy in the Letters to the Editorcolumn, to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: Ive been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I can- not recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals But I do know this. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!Author Unknown The Diocesan Campaign for Jusce and Hope (DCJH) is an effort by the Diocese of Springfield of Illinois under the direcon of Bishop Thomas John Paprocki to promote jusce and hope for the poor. DCJH puts into pracce Catholic teaching on life and dignity of every human person and the Gospel command to care for the least of these(Mahew 25). Drawing inspiraon from the Corporal Works of Mercy, DCJH seeks to address the systemic injusces that contribute to poverty in our diocese and to provide financial support for local programs and organizaons that give realisc hope for the poor to break out of the cycle of poverty through effecve and efficient intervenons. 100% of the contribuons goes to fund organizaons within our Diocese.

MATER DEI BAND PARENTS CHICKEN DINNER

Enjoy a delicious meal on Sunday, November 14, in support of Mater Dei’s music programs! The carry-out only dinner will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Breese. The meal ($12)

includes fried chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and slaw.

At Immaculate Conception in September we installed video equipment so that we can Live

Stream Mass. Those uncomfortable sitting in, with a large group in

church, may sit in a more secluded section in the hall to watch Mass, live stream, receive communion, without

encountering large crowds of people. Included live stream tv for

the cry room for families with small children as they take care of their

children's needs and still watch Mass and receive communion.
