Why Electronic shifting road bike is better?

Gear shifting in road bikes has come a long way since its invention. The number of gears has increased

from 2 to 11 and shifters have moved from the frame to the brake levers and conventional cable

actuation is balanced to relent to electronic shifting. The old steel cables are replaced with small electric

servos and today, electronic shifting road bikes have become more popular than other bikes. It was first

introduced by Shimano and makes use of super-fast electrical impulses to change gears. These bikes are

easy to ride and offer a number of benefits as compared to mechanical gear shift. Some of its benefits

over mechanical shifting gear are:

Shifting Performance

The most important aspect that determines its efficiency is the performance. Shifting performance of

electronic road bike is excellent, especially when it comes to front shifting. Mechanical shifting is now

doubt good and preferred by many riders; however, it cannot match up to the standards of electronic

gear shifting. The motors equipped in e-bikes are so powerful that it enables shifting the drivetrain, even

while under load, without fear of damaging components.

Ease of Maintenance

Electronic shifting is much easier to maintain than mechanical shifting. It is quite straight forward and

can be adjusted with ease. Whereas, mechanical shifting is most often fussy and setting it up, especially

with some of the newer 11-speed designs is pretty difficult. In addition, it requires frequent adjustments

as the springs and cables in due course lose pressure. Although, it can be easily tuned, if any problem

with other components crop up, it needs to be serviced.

Reliability

Another aspect that is considered often is the reliability factor. Electronic shifting is more reliable as it

runs on battery, which needs to be recharged. Even if you forget, it keeps you reminding about it. In

addition, it can run up to 1100 miles with a single charge. Moreover, issues like drop chain, snapping

derailleur cables, etc., which are some of the common issues with mechanical bikes are not faced by the

riders. Hence, it is more reliable as well as convenient than mechanical shifting.

These are some of the aspects that have made e-bikes more popular among the riders today. You can as

well customize your road bike by adding accessories like Shimano bicycle pedals clipless and road bike

saddles Selle Italia. Bicycle chain sprockets parts from a good company can as well be added to your

bicycle to enhance its performance and smoother ride.
