Who’s Your Hero

Romans 1:8-15

Who Were Paul’s Heroes?

Romans 1:8–17 (ESV)

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.

Romans 1:8–17 (ESV)

13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

Who Are the Hero’s Heroes?

Hermine Santruschitz (15 February 1909 – 11 January 2010), better known as Miep Gies, was one of the Dutch citizens who hid Anne Frank, her family and four other Jews from the Nazis in an annex above Anne's father's business premises during World War II.

Miep Gies devoted her life to keeping the memory of her beloved friends alive. She traveled to dozens of countries and gave speeches to numerous schools all over the world.

Before her death in 2010 she was the only person still alive who was mentioned in The Diary of Anne Frank. Every year on August 4, she would close her curtains, ignore the doorbell, the telephone and grieve for her lost Jewish friends.

Paul’s Heroes Have Faith

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed In all the world.

Most people run from fire. Paul ran towards the fire and to those that he knew were in the fire.

Pray For Our Heroes in Faith

9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.

Faith Strengthens Faith11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.

Paul doesn’t go empty handed. His desire was to help his heroes. To give something that will encourage their faith and faithfulness.

God’s Will Comes First! 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles.

Know Your Calling!14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.

You Are My Mission!15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
