Who's Who in Business on Whidbey Island 11

Our fi rm began in 1984 as a residential real estate company with fi ve sales associates. We have grown beyond sales and now consist of three separate divisions: RE/MAX Real Estate Agents; Acorn Properties Management Group Prop-erty Management (rentals); and Acorn Properties Management Group Association Management. Our Association Management Division began in 1995 with one manager, and has grown to four association managers and three support staff. Our association clients vary in size and member-ship type, and our geographic range of management is from the south end of Whidbey Island, up to Anacortes, and on to Mount Vernon and Burlington. We cur-rently manage 25 associations in Oak Harbor, ranging from a six unit condominium to a 151 lot planned community.

Association Management is a specialized area per state regulatory codes RCW 64.32, RCW 64.34, RCW 64.35, RCW 64.38, and RCW 24.03 et al, and

is a very different industry sepa-rate and apart from real estate sales or rental property manage-ment. Real estate sales, property management and association management share basic com-monalities, but the industries vary in purpose and professional requirements. At Acorn Proper-ties Management Group these three divisions operate indepen-dently of each other.

Our job, working with the association’s board of directors, is to oversee and care for the day-to-day operations of the as-sociation. Our services include: responding to board of directors and membership requests; main-taining bookkeeping records and preparing the monthly fi nancial reports; attending board and membership meetings; publish-ing notices to the membership; addressing association viola-tions and maintenance issues; knowing and understanding the governing documents of the as-sociation in conjunction with the appropriate RCWs concerning association laws; and assisting

the board of directors in the preparation of the annual as-sociation budget. Upon receipt of a proposal request from a potential association client, we prepare a management agree-ment which further specifi es the services we provide.

We strive to alleviate the day to day pressures on board members by being the primary point of contact for all matters pertaining to the business of the association. In our experience, board members appreciate the fact that homeowners and ven-dors have a professional busi-ness offi ce to communicate with, instead of knocking on their door. Our goal is to practice common sense and preventative management to the benefi t of the association, board, and all members.

Our Association Manage-ment Division is a member of Community Associations Institute (CAI). CAI is the inter-national organization that works as the governing body for the

community association manage-ment industry. CAI provides professional designations and continuing education for com-munity association managers, as well as education for Board Members and Business Partners. Our association managers take continuing education courses offered through the Washington State chapter of CAI. Com-munity Association Managers International Certifi cation Board (CAMICB) is a separate interna-tional organization that certifi es community association manag-ers. Three of our association managers hold their CMCA® (Certifi ed Manager of Commu-nity Associations) certifi cation through CAMICB.

Should you have any ques-tions about our services, our fi rm, or how we can help your association, please feel free to contact our Property Manage-ment Manager, Patty Folkstad, at 360-679-6149, or [email protected].

Coupeville Storage & Industrial Park(CSI Storage)

19762 State Hwy 20, Coupeville WA 98239

Located about 3 miles south of Coupeville by Island Transit is Coupeville Storage and Industrial Park, nicknamed CSI Storage. This growing business is built, owned and operated by Larry and Libby McCauley.

They built the rst 24 covered RV/boat storage units a few years ago with cement oors and power. Next, a complex of 10 ft. x 10 ft. and 10 ft. x 20 ft. garages for household storage was added. Now they are adding a complex of 13 ft. x 42 ft. covered pull-through units, which can be enclosed with sliding garage doors at each end– really handy for those big rigs! All these have concrete oors with power available.

Future plans include building warehousing and shop business units, since 3-phase power is available.

If you need big rig covered garages, a storage garage for extra household items or need a shop or warehousing room, give Larry and Libby a call. They can also customize a unit to your speci c needs.

Hi to all doll lovers everywhere! I`m Kathy and my love of dolls began when I was very young. In 1975, I

started making my own dolls and competing in the local Ceramic Show at the fair grounds in Monroe. I won “Best in Show” that year and was presented

with a “Freddy” for my very rst doll!

In 1995, I joined the Doll Artisan School of Doll Making to re ne my skills and earned my Masters and Doctorate. It gave me the opportunity

to attend many doll seminars across the United States and Europe. I am a certi ed teacher in both antique and modern doll making. Doll restoration

has been a very rewarding and ful lling skill that is always being challenged. Every doll has its own story to tell.

My dream after so many years was to open my own doll shop. In 2009, in Langley, on rst street, my husband and I opened “Once Upon A Time.” So

here I am... with my wonderful husband Laddie in Clinton. Everyone around us seemed to have ”jump ship!” We are still going strong.

Come and experience a little nostalgia and a little new!

Our shop has a full range of dolls included are: Madame Alexander, Kathe Kruse, Corolle Dolls, Mark Roberts Faries, Kringlekins Elfs, Wee Forest

Folks, Mice Byers, Choice Carolers, Bearington Bears, Doll Acessories, Fur-niture, and Gifts for every occasion.

Cosignments Welcome!

18 Who's Who in Business on Whidbey Island

Sandy Gilbert was lucky enough to spend time in her youth on Whidbey Island. She LOVED the beaches, bonfi res, ferries, parades and festivals.

Her mother, a broker from Seattle, set an example of how wonderful helping people buy and sell homes could be, whether in Seattle or on Whidbey Island. With all the fun and spirit Whidbey had to offer Sandy, with her husband Bill, raised their two children on South Whidbey.

Sandy was a school teacher of math and science at the wonderful Langley Middle School for many years. It was only natural for her to become a Broker on an island that she loves.

Sandy now lives in Coupeville, which makes it easy to go north or south on the island to easily meet your needs.

Please give her a call, text or email and visit her website for additional information.
