Maintaining a classic look, Harney & Sons strivesto develop new and exciting blends of tea eachyear. We are a vertically integrated company andtherefore have total control over the quality of ourteas. We source, blend, and package our teas at ourMillerton, NY location.

Mike Harney travels each year to choose only thefinest tea gardens. Meanwhile, Paul Harney workshard keeping us updated with all of the newesttechnology for the teas.

We have hot and iced teas, loose and bagged teas, as well as ready to drink organic iced teas and juices. We offer the total tea package.

The decades of tea experience put into the ideasand packaging of our teas will help boost your teasales. We are committed to your tea business.

CELEBRATING 27 YEARSJohn Harney, FounderOver twenty seven years ago John Harneydeveloped a passion for fine teas. Starting in hisvery own house basement, John began hisjourney in becoming a master tea blender.Getting thrown out of his own basement so thathis wife Elyse could do the family’s laundry andnot worry about the bleach or detergent mixingwith the teas, John took his tea business to hisgarage. At that time, he was also the Innkeeperat the White Hart Inn in Salisbury, CT. It wasthere that John got the guests hooked on the teasand soon found they were coming back as repeatcustomers for his fine teas.

Feeling the overgrowth in his garage, Johnventured to a new location, this time down theroad from his home in what would becomeHarney & Sons Tea Company. John wondered at

the time what he would do with all the space hepurchased for the tea business.

It would be only a few years later that the greattaste of Harney & Sons tea would result in Johnand his sons, Mike and Paul, looking for morespace for the company. In 2003, the Harney’sbought a 90,000 square foot building just over theConnecticut border in Millerton, New York.

Looking down the long dark hallways of thefactory, it was hard for John to fathom how theycould possibly use all of this space for tea!

A few years from that day John Harney wouldlook down the hallways into the factory and find90,000 square feet filled with fine teas! Currently,John walks into his successful tea company eachmorning with a bag of pastries for his employees.His kindness stretches way beyond the walls ofthe factory.

The process of shipping tea from the world’stea gardens to Harney & Sons’ production facility for blending, bagging and packing, then on to the world’steacups, impacts our increasingly fragile environment. What could we do to give back to the environment thatgrows the tea of the world?

In 2006, Michael and Paul Harney decided membership in 1% For The Planet would provide Harney & Sonswith the opportunity to drive positive environmental change in our geographical region. Our production facilityis located in Upstate New York surrounded by the beautiful mountains that make up the Berkshire Range. Weare minutes from the Appalachian Trail. Our facility is located between the Hudson River to our west and theHousatonic River to our east. The Housatonic offers some of this country’s finest fly-fishing. Wildlife aboundsin Upstate New York and the neighboring states of Massachusetts and Connecticut. The American Bald Eaglehas made this Tri-State area its home once again. Our national bird can be observed in flight over the Hudsonand Housatonic sourcing dinner or just sunning on a tree branch overlooking the riverbank.

Joining 1% FTP meant we could directly donate one percent of our total sales to the environmental organizationsof our choice. We also pay annual membership dues to 1% FTP to help this exemplary organization defray itsoverhead costs.
