A ROCK BAND FROM HASTINGS, A WILD TOWN…

Reverberations from the world of modern pop music take their time to filter down the A21, the sluggish but picturesque road which is the only way in or out of Hastings, and is probably why talk of a recent drought in decent guitar music is news to the town Kid Kapichi call home. While the famous Hastings Pier, which in days gone by hosted Hendrix, The Who, The Stones and The Clash, is now a burnt-out shell, local music pub The Union Bar is a

cauldron of musical activity. The path to the bar runs the gauntlet of hi-hats, bass amps and wasted music nuts, and any day of the week wandering around the old town you will hear the crunch of guitars belonging to the likes of Riddles, Maid of Ace, Bosco Rogers or any number of rock bands that grace the local stages.

Make no mistake, this is one wild town and the kids here are proud of their musical heritage…

SONGWRITING, PARTYING, BROMANCE AND TATTOOS…

It’s here that Jack Wilson and Ben Beetham met three years ago. During a Jaeger fuelled night of mayhem they bonded over a shared love of loud noise and questionable tattoos. The pair hit it off and along with whiz kid mega drummer George Macdonald, spent a long, cold winter working bars, writing songs and gigging. It wasn’t long before they’d

made a name for themselves on the local scene and predictably, tattooed the name of their band across their bodies. Although the boys deservedly suffered much ridicule at their bar jobs for this act of commitment / egotism, people quickly forgave their dodgy ink when the band played their first live shows.

NEW BRITISH POWER PUNK & A LIVE TOUR DE FORCE

Watching the band is a bit like watching swan lake, performed on a rolling river by a fleet of forty harrier jump jets, underpinned by sweet melodies of tortured youth… Or Rebel Without a Cause acted out in song form by the heavy industrial equipment of a Victorian steelworks… or more accurately watching an amazing band playing brilliant songs. They love colossal noise with massive catchy hooks, and Jack and Ben’s shared lead vocals coupled with a musicianship way beyond their years is what makes this a supremely exciting live show. Their ferocious, but tight style

with dual lead guitars strafing the crowd has been described as New British Power Punk and leaves audiences stunned with their mouths wide open… before going mental and moshing out.

If Led Zeppelin, The Libertines, The White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age blew ayahuasca up each others noses and teamed up to play The Arctic Monkeys’ debut album at double speed with Hendrix on lead guitar, it could well sound like this. Men want to be them and women want to be with them… or at least that’s what they believe.

SINGLE AND TOUR…

But then again, what’s not to like? Good looking kids with a healthy arsenal of rock songs with lyrics telling simple tales about girls and partying growing up in a small town.

After adding bassist Eddie Lewis to their ranks in early 2014, the band spent most of last year writing and recording, with producer Tim Morris at the controls in the studio.

The band are self-releasing debut single She Kicks Off in July 2015, and have so far enjoyed support from Carl Barat, The NME & Steve Lamacq, with the DJ repeat playing the track on 6 Music since having the cd thrust into his hand during a Valentines weekend with his missus in Hastings. In April, they will be announcing summer London shows and UK tour to accompany the single.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY…

The NME “With a Libs-esque front line of twin songwriters Ben Beetham and Jack Wilson, the unsigned band won’t remain that way for long.”

Dave Parsons (Sham 69) "Kid Kapichi are going to be huge. I can honestly say they're the best band I've seen in 20 years. If I was a kid watching them - this is the band that would make me want to pick up a guitar and play.”

Source Magazine (Brighton) "Kid Kapichi are a raggle-taggle bunch, they’re loud and tightly wound, and have some compact, supremely catchy songs in their arsenal. A messy and energetic dose of teenage kicks"

SQ Magazine "The searing sounds being thrashed out are tighter than a hitch knot" & "Kid Kapichi will still satisfy the new generation of adolescents with a heavy dose of teenage kicks"

The Sonic Reverie (Nottingham) "Kid Kapichi manage to impress as they take to the stage with their catchy and punchy rock. Providing vocal duties as well as shredding some instantly hummable riffs, Ben Beetham and Jack Wilson bring the vocal interplay to a stunning climax during 'Inflated Sense Of Self Importance' which is easily the most addictive song in their refreshingly accessible set.”

Four piece British power punk band from Hastings.

Jack Wilson (22) and Ben Beetham (22) are twin frontmen, lead guitarists and songwriters.

Drummer George Macdonald (20) and bassist Eddie Lewis (20) make up the rest of the band.

Key tracks are She Kicks Off (Repeat play from Steve Lamacq, 6 Music), Doctor’s Note and Felicity.

Sickeningly tight and energetic live.

Key influences are Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stone Age and The Libertines.

After several large gins, Carl Barat once took the boys upstairs to an office in the Barfly and told them he thought they could be the new Libs.

They have supported Slaves, Skunk Anansie and Fat White Family.

The video for She Kicks Off was filmed in a St Leonard’s building site where the band’s ex bassist was working as a labourer.

Nobody knows where the name came from.
