Renowned for its majestic peaks, natural beauty, and boundless recreation opportunities, the White Mountains Region is a four-season destination for the entire family.Avid hikers seek out this region for its 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest, home to 48 peaks over 4,000 ft. as well as the northeast’s tallest peak, Mount Washington at 6,288 ft. But you need not hike to enjoy the area’s grandeur. Spectacular views are yours via the historic Mt. Washington Auto Road and the Mt. Washington Cog Railway, as well as gondolas, chairlifts, Canopy Tour, and aerial tramways.
Outdoor recreation opportunities abound. Take a drive along the 30-mile Kancamagus Highway and National Scenic Byway (Rte 112), or enjoy a ride aboard the Conway Scenic Railroad. Canoe, kayak, swim or fish in the Saco River. Zoom down a zipline at White Mountain-area resorts such as Bretton Woods, Cannon, Cranmore, Loon, and Wildcat. Bicycle or mountain-bike along meandering paths or challenging trails. Play tennis or golf at one of the region’s nine courses. Bring a picnic and relax at Arethusa or Franconia Falls or the spectacular Flume Gorge. Snowmobile or snowshoe in the winter wonderland of the White Mountains region, and visit the area’s 13 ski resorts for skiing and snowboarding opportunities for all, from novice to expert.

Things to do…Sweet Summer Season To welcome the onset of summer in June, the fields of the little town of Sugar Hill are animated with the yellows, reds, and whites of wildflowers, and the intensely purple lupines. Birds, butterflies, and bees flutter amongst the violet spires against a background of beautiful mountain ranges. It is a wonderful setting for quiet reflection.
Bretton Woods Canopy Tour Situated high on the slopes of Bretton Woods and descending over 1,000 feet of elevation, the 3-hour tour takes nature-lovers and thrill-seekers across a series of tree-top zip lines through a network of platforms high in the ancient hemlocks.

Become Scottish for the Day The New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival is one of the largest and most diverse Highland Games held in the United States. Climb the Railway to the Moon The Mount Washington Cog Railway is a National Historic Engineering Landmark. Complete with vintage steam engines and replica coaches, as well as biodiesel locomotives, the Cog Railway is a “must do” while visiting the White Mountains. Passengers will experience a sense of adventure and history on the Mount Washington Cog Railway’s 3-hour guided train tour to the highest peak in the Northeast. Visitors can take in the spectacular panoramic view, spanning the mountains and valleys of NH, Maine and Vermont, north into Canada, and east to the Atlantic Ocean. The Cog Railway just completed a new museum at the base station as they prepare for their 150th year.

If you want to escape the noise and stress of the city, but you don’t want to deal with the crowds of tourists who flock to the White Mountain National Forest and the Lakes Region, this campground is perfect for you and your family. Directions From I-93N, take Exit 41, turn right at the end of the ramp. Go to lights, turn right on to Rte. 116. Go 8 miles then turn left on to Forest Lake Road, the campground entrance is ahead 150 feet on the right. Please check in at the office upon arrival. Amenities The campground features aquatic activities like swimming, canoeing, and fishing. Most sites have full hookups and most of them are pull-thru. There are also tent sites, a pool, picnic tables and fire rings, and a dump station.

PROPANE SAFETY AT CAMPGROUNDS
Information provided by the NATIONAL LP-GAS ASSOCIATION• If an RV has been idle and unused for some time, make some
safety checks before using the LP-gas appliances.• Check the entire vehicle, especially the propane system, for
possible tampering. Make sure the propane tanks are properly secured. If the cylinders are not mounted on the vehicle, it is recommended that they be placed on level ground, on a firm foundation.
• Check all vents (including the regulator vent) and combustion air intakes to make sure they are clear, and contain no restrictions such as foreign matter, bird nests, mouse nests, or mud-dauber wasp structures.
• Clean away any debris from around burners and pilot lights such as burnt match sticks, bits of food, etc.
• Before turning on the gas at the tanks, be sure all appliance valves are turned OFF, and check to determine which pilot lights must be lit. After the gas has been turned on, be sure all pilots are lit.
• As a precaution to determine if any leaks have developed, give your RV a “sniff” test, do a soap bubble test at all connections, or contact your local LP-gas supplier to perform a pressure test on your system.
