What is Tyvaso?Tyvaso (treprostinil) is a prescription medicine used in adults to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; WHO Group I), which is high blood pressure in the arteries of your lungs. Tyvaso can improve the ability to exercise. Your ability to exercise decreases 4 hours after taking Tyvaso. It is not known if Tyvaso is safe and effective in children under 18 years of age.

Why should I consider Tyvaso?

Prostacyclin is essentialProstacyclin is a natural substance made by your body. Prostacyclin helps keep the blood vessels in the lungs open and working properly. Patients with PAH may not produce enough natural prostacyclin.

Tyvaso is a form of man-made prostacyclin called a prostacyclin analogue. It mimics some of the effects of natural prostacyclin, helping to keep the blood flowing through your lungs.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME?

In the 12-week clinical study of Tyvaso, patients were taking an oral PAH medicine (bosentan or sildenafil) and completed a 6-minute walk test at the beginning and end of the study. Patients who added Tyvaso walked an average 71 feet (21.6 meters) farther at the end of the study. Those who did not add Tyvaso walked an average 10 feet (3 meters) farther.

Adding Tyvaso may help you do more in your day—go for a stroll, walk your kids to the bus stop, or walk to a mailbox.
