Building Your House
An elderly carpenter was ready to
retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to
leave the house-building business to live a more
leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended
family.
The contractor was sorry to see his
good worker go and asked if he could build just one
more house as a personal favour. The carpenter
agreed , but over time it was easy to see that his
heart was not in his work. He used inferior materials
and his work was shoddy. It was an unfortunate way
to end a dedicated career.
So it is with us. We build our
lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best
into the building. Then, with a shock, we realize we
have to live in the house we have built. If we could
do it over, we would do it much differently.
But, you cannot go back. You
are the carpenter, and every day you hammer a nail,
place a board, or erect a wall. Someone once said,
"Life is a do-it-yourself project." Your attitude, and
the choices you make today, help build the "house"
you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, build wisely!
Your career….
Your future………!
.
When the
carpenter finished his
work, his employer
came to inspect the
house. He handed the
front-door key to the
carpenter and said,
"This is your house...
my gift to you." The
carpenter was
shocked!
What a shame! If he
had only known he
was building his own
house, he would have
done it all so
differently!

Short-Term Course on LaTeX
Document Preparation System.
LaTeX is a document preparation system for
high-quality typesetting, suitable for medium
or large technical or scientific documents such
as project reports, journal articles, technical
reports, books etc. It helps authors to
concentrate on the content rather than on the
appearance of the documents. It is a freeware.
Department of Electronics & Communication
decided to conduct a short term course on
LaTeX and its use for our students who have to
generate project reports, journal papers etc. as
part of their curriculum.
The course was held in Advanced Resource
Centre Lab of Rajagiri School of Engineering
& Technology from 4.30 p. m. to 6 p. m. on
18th
19th
& 20th
January 2010.
DEC faculty members Ms. Rithu James, Mr.
Sreeraj K. P. and Ms. Harsha A. were the
resource persons for the course.
50 students registered for the course - 18 from
M. Tech ECE Department, 16 from M. Tech
CS Department and remaining from S6 EC and
S8 EC classes. The course was also attended by
Prof. K. S. Mathew of CS Department.
On Day1, the students were introduced to the
LaTeX system and its advantages, followed by
practical session on Day 2 and 3. Students
showed very good enthusiasm to learn about
this new documentation system.
At the end of the session, CDs containing the
course material and the LaTeX freeware were
distributed to the participants. A course fee of
Rs 50/- per student was collected.
The course was co-ordinated by Ms. K Rama
Varma and Ms. Jisa David.
