When teams pass from the locker room to Memorial Gymnasium, the first thing they see is a banner that spreads from door to door announcing: THIS IS OUR HOUSE.With one year under my belt as Knox athletics director, having witnessed tremendous growth in our department and on our teams,those words bring a surge of #PrairieFirePride to my heart every timeI see them.

This year, we’ve witnessed some amazing accomplishments in OurHouse. Our men’s and women’s soccer teams both won Midwest

Conference titles and participated in their respective NCAA Championships. First-year Austin Rauch placed sixth inthe nation in high jump at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. In the classroom, 122 of our student-athletes were named Academic All-Conference Performers for maintaining a GPA of 3.3 or higher. In fact, thewomen’s swim team earned a collective GPA of 3.55—among the top 20 in the nation among Division III schools—while the men’s swim team posted a 3.36 GPA, the highest in the Midwest Conference.

Thanks to your support, we’ve made needed enhancements to our facilities and fields, with plans for future improvements. We also renewed and secured an enhanced apparel partnership with Nike and BSN Sports, enablingus to provide better equipment to our student-athletes and add gameday promotion and branding to spread our#PrairieFirePride across campus and beyond.

The growth of K Club and increased financial support from our members has been essential in helping us respondquickly to coaching changes, recruiting opportunities, and both unanticipated and deferred equipment needs. Youtruly are the team behind the teams, and we are all so grateful.

BASEBALL• EJ Roncone ’22 was named MWC Newcomer of the Year with the 2nd lowestERA in the MWC at 1.92 and ranking 4thin innings pitched (56.1).

• Dalton James ’19, Kobe Shutter ’20, and Andrew Ponce ’20 were awarded All-Conference honors.

MEN’S BASKETBALL• Justin Windt ’20 finished 8th in the leaguein shooting percentage (.550) while averaging 11.0 points per game.

• First-year Jordan Rayner averaged 10.8points per game.

• First-year point guard Malcolm Bray dishedout 2.4 assists per game.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL• Karlie Thorn ’19 set the school record forthree-pointers made in the December 1game at St. Norbert when she knockeddown eight. She then set the career recordon February 14 when she made five moreto bring her total to 178.

• Jarrelyn McCall ’20 was named secondteam All-Conference. She finished 3rd infree throw percentage (.813) and 6th inthe MWC with 14.7 points per game and8th with 7.1 rebounds per game.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S CROSSCOUNTRY• The Men’s Cross Country team placed 9thoverall at the 2018 MWC Championships.

• Isaac Hughes ’21 had three top 50 performances for the Fire this season.

• Meaghan Dorsey ’19 had three total top15 finishes for the Prairie Fire this fall.

• Iris Berto ’22 placed 9th overall at theMWC Championships to earn Newcomer ofthe Year and All-Conference honors. Hertime of 23:35.4 places her second on theall-time list in school history. Berto hasalso collected three other top 10 finisheson the year to go along with a top 20 performance.

FOOTBALL• The Homecoming victory over Illinois College 20-6 was the first victory over theBlueboys since a 14-0 shutout on October29, 2005, in Jacksonville.

SOFTBALL• Gabbi Diaz ’22 broke the Knox College single season record for most pitching appearances, most games started, mostcomplete games, and most inningspitched.

• Sophomore Bhumika Gupta ’21 led theway for a team predominantly made up offirst-years, going 9-5 in singles play on theyear.

SWIMMING AND DIVING• Swimming and Diving was named CSCAAScholar All-America. The Prairie Firewomen’s team finished in the top 20 in thenation in DIII and second in the MWC inGPA (3.55). The men also posted a 3.36GPA for the semester, finishing first in theMWC.

• Joe Hilger ’19 earned the Elite 20 Awardfor men’s swimming. The award recognizesthe commitment of the student-athlete toward the pursuit of excellence in both theathletic and academic realms.

VOLLEYBALL• Libero Mady Ferris ’21 was named secondteam All-Conference.

• Ferris broke the Knox single-season recordfor digs with 686. She was also 4th in thenation in digs per set (6.93).

Prairie Fire TailgatesK Club members enjoyed tailgate games andfood at a number of Prairie Fire football andsoccer games, often with a guest appearanceby the Prairie Fire’s mascot, Blaze—who, incidentally, makes a great addition to anybags team.

Prats Field DedicationNewly renovated Jorge Prats Field was dedicated on September 29 in a pre-game ceremony. Director of Athletics Danielle Irle, President Teresa Amott, and longtime Knox soccer coach JorgePrats were joined by soccer head coaches Brian O’Connor and Chris Haupt-Thompson to cut theribbon and officially dedicate the field.

Basketball ReunionKnox welcomed back Coach Evan Massey ’74and the first varsity letter-winning women’steam, who were instrumental in buildingKnox’s women’s basketball program post-TitleIX. Coach Harley Knosher also celebrated the1968 men’s team and recounted its legendary win over Monmouth College at “The K.” The annual alumni game and a reception at Cherry Street rounded out thefestivities.

Men’s and Women’s Soccer Alumni WeekendLetterwinners came together to reconnectwith old teammates and meet both of the2018 MWC Championship teams. This wasthe inaugural women’s soccer alumni weekend and the seventh annual men’s celebration. Activities included mixers, end-of-year team banquets, and two highlycompetitive matches between alumni andcurrent players.

K Club Golf OutingKnox alumni, coaches, and friends enjoyed anafternoon of golf and an evening reception atthe beautiful Soangetaha Country Club inGalesburg. Participants enjoyed reconnectingwith their peers and Coach Harley Knosher.

This fiscal year three of our teams raised funds through crowdfunding efforts. Thesefunds were used to support special travel experiences that give the team a higher-levelof competition and team bonding opportunities.

FRIENDS & FAMILY GATE AT THE KNOSHER BOWLThe tailgate entrance of the Knosher Bowl got a significant upgrade this yearwith the installation of a new wrought-iron gate and brick columns. An extended concrete sidewalk also provides an accessible connection to the rest of the facility. Improvements will also be made to the accessible vehicleentrance and parking area. The gate will be dedicated at the Prairie Fire football home opener on September 14, 2019.
