When is the right time to sell your Business?

02

Unfortunately, most business owners leave it too late to think about

selling their business.

When you actually have to sell it is

often more difficult to maximise the

value of your business.

It is better to take some time

to think about the reasons

that may cause you to sell.

03

03

Retirement is a great reason to sell and it’s

a reason prospective buyers can relate to.

Putting early plans in place will ensure you

are well prepared financially so you can

minimise the tax impact and live the lifestyle

you dream of.

Retirement

Having to sell your business because of

illness, yours or someone else’s, is very

difficult and gives you little or no control of

the timing.

03

Illness

A lack of, and a need for, capital are reasons why

a business owner may be forced to sell.

Not having the resources and cash flow to

expand and grow your business can be tough.

03

Cash flow issues

Owning your own business is often demanding.

Personal time and time out with family and friends

can become almost non-existent.

It this sounds like your life – take a break!

Find someone to run the business while you have

a short break, or shut up shop. It can make a big

difference and if you still feel the same when you

get back then it may be definitely be time to sell

your business.

03

It’s just time to move on

Being in dispute with a partner is a nightmare and

the business often suffers through a lack of focus

on its every day operations.

If the differences are irreconcilable then get on with

life and look at your exit strategies.

03

Conflict with a partner

Nobody starts out to fail but there comes a

time when you have to face the facts and be

brutally honest with yourself.

If your expectations are not turning into

reality, your business is losing and you can't

dig your way out of it then you may have no

choice except to sell.

03

Failing in business

The best time to sell your business is when it is at its

peak.

It’s easy to show it is profitable and this is when you

will get the best price for it.

03

Business is booming

Whatever the reason for selling, once the decision is

made you need to ask yourself…

“Who will sell the business?”

You or a broker?

03

Who will you sell your business?

There is no doubt that the person who owns the

business knows it best and this can be a real

advantage when selling.

But you also need to know how to handle the sales

process so you can get the best price and the best

buyer.
