When I pray coincidences happen
Archbishop of Canterbury William
Temple said, ‘When I pray
coincidences happen; when I
don’t, they don’t.”
If asked “how prayer works”, I'd
probably refer them to this
statement. And here's another,
this time from E. M. Bounds:-
"Only God can move mountains,
but faith and prayer move God."
As prayer coordinator at All
Saints’, my passion is that, rather
than theologise, discuss, and
argue, we simply get on and do it.
Don't ask me how or when it
works, but I am convinced that
for God to have mercy and move
As I look at places such as India,
Africa, Brazil and China, I see the
kingdom of God advancing in
power. Churches in these nations
pray.
In the United Kingdom, we've yet
to grasp the potential of prayer as
they have. It's my prayer that at
All Saints’ we develop a new
vision of the God who can move
mountains. And that we simply
get on and pray!

Having been on my own Christian
pilgrimage since 1978, I've heard
messages which have tried to
dissect and analyse an activity
that should be as natural as
talking to our parents as a child.
As time has gone on I've simply
resigned myself to “just do it”.
Strangely, as I've done this, I've
begun to develop an appetite for
it.
