“When All Hope Seems Lost”

(Mk. 16:12-13; Lk. 24:13-35)

When Hope Seems Lost

Lk. 24:6-7

6 "He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7

"saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified,

and the third day rise again.'"

When Hope Seems Lost

Luke 24:21 (NKJV) 21 But we were hoping that it was He who was

going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things

happened.

When Hope Seems Lost

(Luke 24:25-27)

Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the

prophets have spoken! "Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" And beginning at Moses and all the

Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

(NKJV)

When Hope Seems Lost

He said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? – Lk. 24:38

He showed them His hands and His feet.

41 But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, - Lk. 24:40-41

When Hope Seems Lost

Luke 24:44–46 (NKJV) 44 Then He said to them, “These are the words

which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the

Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their

understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is

written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

Jesus Predicted His Death

Mark 8:31

“…that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief

priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.”

Jesus Predicted His Death

Mk. 9:30-32

“…He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the

hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.” 32 But they did not understand this saying, and were

afraid to ask Him.

Jesus Predicted His Death

Mat. 20:17-19

“…the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will

condemn Him to death, 19 and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to

crucify. And the third day He will rise again.”

When Hope Seems Lost

Luke 24:26–27 (NKJV) 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these

things and to enter into His glory?” 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the

things concerning Himself.

When Hope Seems Lost

Luke 24:31–32 (NKJV) 31 Then their eyes were opened and they

knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us

on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

God’s Irony: Just when all seemed lost, all had actually been gained!

Luke 19:10 (NKJV) 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to

save that which was lost.”

God’s Irony: Just when all seemed lost, all had actually been gained!

Luke 18:22 (NKJV) 22 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you

will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

God’s Irony: Just when all seemed lost, all had actually been gained!

Matthew 10:35–38 (NKJV) 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-

in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is

not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his

cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

Galatians 3:26 (NKJV) 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

God’s Irony: Just when all seemed lost, all had actually been gained!

Matthew 16:25 (NKJV) 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose

it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

Sometimes God’s plans for us play out very differently than we might imagine.

Romans 8:28 (NKJV) 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who

are the called according to His purpose.

Sometimes God’s plans for us play out very differently than we might imagine.

Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) 5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For

He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
