Wheaton Townhome Transformation
Ordinary to Extraordinary
“Everyone who saw the original space is
amazed. It completely transformed the
home.”
- Kris H., Homeowner
Before: Typical Townhome
The typical townhome is an attractive buy to homeowners looking to downsize. It has everything you need to feel at home, but when all of your neighbors have that same shell of a space, it is hard to make your home distinct.
Our homeowners, Kris & Jon, faced this problem when looking for a townhome, and then they spoke with Glen Ellyn Homes, Drury Design & Derrick Architecture. They had a few ideas of what they wanted, and with the expertise between these companies, the finished project is a beautiful home that has their neighborhood talking.
Floorplan Before
Typical Townhome
Basic appliances, bland cabinetry and no color on the walls; this is what most people find when walking into a townhome that’s on the market.
Bland & Boring Bath
Simple bath fixtures along with the basic bathroom accessories, makes a functional space that lacks any personal touch.
Against the Wall
When sharing a common wall with your neighbors, you might think you have limited options. But with the help of Drury Design Kitchen & Bath Studio, you can create a whole new space within the confines of the outer walls.
Tiny Sink
A vanity in a bath should serve both form and function. It should give you the space you need for storage, as well as being a unique design that fits in with the rest of the home.
After: Luxury Retreat
After walking through the space, Chris Derrick of Derrick Architecture knew what had to be done. The ceilings were vaulted, walls were opened up, rooms were re-arranged and an overall Tuscan theme was set into motion by Gladys Schanstra of Drury Design.
With a team of experts steering this project toward the finish line, the townhome was completed and is now a whole new space that the owners can be proud to call home.

Tuscan Inspired Cabinetry
A Chef’s Kitchen
Drury Design incorporated the homeowner’s wish list into the limited space of the townhome by using creative storage solutions. Spice pull-outs, corner drawers, deep appliance garages and corner optimizers maximize storage space.
Tearing down walls…
…and opening up spaces. After removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, Drury wrapped a wet bar between the two rooms to add more counter space and to create a pleasing transition between the spaces.
A Place for Gathering
Outfitted for entertaining, the kitchen has all of
the features needed to host
any get-together. Some of the appliances
include a Sub-Zero refrigerator, freezer, and wine storage unit; Wolf
cooktop and oven; Miele speed oven; and Fisher
Paykel dishwasher drawers.
Finishing Touches
By taking on the impossible task to vault the ceilings in this space, as well as widening the staircase, the townhome really opened up to be more inviting. It’s hard to believe you’re in a townhome when you walk through such an open layout.
A New Light
Glen Ellyn Homes and Derrick Architeture added both new skylights and a three-panel patio door to the living room, flooding it with natural light, and keeping with the open feel.
A Master Full Bath
Gabrill Cabintry in both the kitchen and master bath adds elegance to the Tuscan theme throughout the townhome. The master bath took on a whole new look with these cabinets and gave a new meaning to what a master vanity should look like.
Spacious Shower
To make room for a larger bath, the plan relocated the master walk-in closet to an extra-long laundry room space with a stacked washer and dryer. The clients went from a bigger home and master bath to a much smaller, condensed space, without compromising on function and style.
One of a Kind Style
With such unique accents throughout the remodeled townhome, Gladys Schanstra of Drury Design wanted to make each room a memorable space, and she didn’t stop when it came to the powder room. She was able to find a piece that not only packs in a lot of style to such a small space, but that also fits like a glove.
