Greetings to all my friends, family, and support-
ers who have encouraged me so much over the last year. I
have been continuing my education in aviation and have
much good news to share.
July 23 was one full year with my pilot license. I
took the day to appreciate how far I’ve come and to re-spect the sacrifice poured into making my dream become
a reality. I have developed an appreciation for those that
have helped me so far, most notable of which is my grand-
father and flight instructor who in May took his final
flight to be with the Lord.
Another man who has a heart for aspiring young
people in the aviation industry is Pat Epps. I mentioned
Mr. Epps in my January newsletter of this year. After my
grandfather, Jerry Cooper, spoke with Mr. Epps last year
he was happy to extend to me an invitation of employ-
ment . This summer I was busy turning wrenches and re-
storing aircraft to their airworthy condition. I worked on
single engine propeller aircraft of all type at Peachtree-Dekalb Airport in Chamblee of Atlanta, Georgia.
The experienced A&P mechanics I worked under took the
time to show me the tricks of the trade in the short time I
was there. This will surely be an immensely valued experi-
enced as I pursue my A&P mechanics rating in the future
and ultimately working on planes in the missions field.
I did not have much opportunity to engage in
flight training last semester because of shortage of funds
and the tight scheduling of flight times at Liberty. Thishowever allowed me to save up funds for this semester so I
immediately began training towards my instrument flight
rating.
Somebody I must thank for their incredible gener-
osity this summer is a family I met in Atlanta. The Holmes,
members of Calvary Assembly of God, decided they would
open up their doors to me. Not merely their doors, but a
bedroom and a kitchen and a dog and four hearts that live
to serve the Lord. Allowing me to stay in their home dur-
ing my employment at Epps Aviation was an incredible
blessing and their generosity will not be forgotten.
Thanks again for the prayers. Grace & Peace,
Joseph “Alex” Cooper

Jerry Cooper, my grandfa-
ther and flight instructor went
to be with the Lord unexpect-
edly. His influence will always
be remembered.
JAARS missionary pilot “Skip”
Holmberg in front of his STOL
Helio Courier aircraft after a dem-
onstration flight at Airventure in
Oshkosh, WI. My cousin (right) and
myself (left) at eight years old
shared a photograph which would
be remembered for years to come.
Gerry Fairbairn (left) and my aviation
professor Kurt Reesman (right) met my
grandfather and I at an AOPA Flight
Instructor Refresher Clinic in Charlotte,
NC. They travel the US teaching clinics to
some of the most experienced pilots and
flight instructors in the world.
12 years later I had the pleas-
ure of running into “Skip” at
the Flight Instructor Refresher
Clinic. I shared lunch with him
and he shared wisdom with
me. He said when looking for
financial support in missions,
don’t look for people with deep
pockets, but people who pray.
Liberty University’s residential growth has been capped by
the city of Lynchburg to 12,000 students and unfortunately I
could not enroll. Instead I have moved off campus and en-
rolled in one of the top online college programs in the nation
LU Online at a fraction of the cost of residential classes. I will
return residentially in the Spring.
