The world may be in a state of

ongoing uncertainty and non-

essential product and service

sectors could bear the brunt of

the economic downturn, but an expatriate is

confident that demand for bloodstock from the

key market of China will continue to grow.

Rui Severino, a trainer for Yulong in

China who has also worked for another

prominent owner in Lin Lang’s Inner

Mongolia Rider Horse group, believes the

appetite from an increasing number of

wealthy individuals from the world power

wanting to buy and breed thoroughbreds is

on the increase.

An East Timor-born Australian, who

previously trained in Darwin before stints as

an assistant to Lloyd Kennewell and Stephen

Theodore in Adelaide and Victoria respectively,

Severino believes the coronavirus pandemic and

its implications “won’t stop” China’s growing

interest in racing. Continued on page 2>>

“This year has been a big setback for

all the big investors like Mr Wolf (Rider Horse) and Mr Zhang (Yulong)

who have put in so much money into the sport in China, but there’s also

many, many others - small club owners and owners - that own racing

stables, for example, inside the Yulong Jockey Club and some have quite

big teams of 40 and 50 horses,” said Severino, who is midway through his

14-day quarantine stint in a Sydney hotel as he awaits being reunited with

his family in Melbourne.

“They spent so much money

on horses last year, but that hasn’t

stopped them looking forward

and keeping on investing.

“At the moment many of them

are racing horses here in Australia

as they haven’t been able to get

them back to China.”

Lin Lang, known as Mr Wolf,

and Yuesheng Zhang are arguably

the highest-profile Chinese

owners who have significant

international racing and breeding

interests, primarily in New

Zealand and Australia.

But compatriots Zhiqiang

An, who races exciting juvenile

Wisdom Of Water (Headwater),

and Gu Tao’s Breeze Up

Bloodstock have also been

significant buyers at Australasian

sales in recent times.

“In China, the number of

tracks being built is still growing.

As we speak, there’s a new

racetrack going in now and it is

huge,” Severino said.

“It is in Shanxi Province

(where Yulong Racecourse is also

located) in a city called Xi’an. They make big trucks look like little cars and

it is only half way through construction.

“The bigger owners, like Mr Zhang and Mr Wolf and the others, have

long-term projects especially Mr Zhang who has invested immensely in

his own Yulong operation.

“He is still growing his broodmare band whether it is in Australia, Ireland

or China. He is breeding a lot of horses in China itself as well as Australia, as

we know, and it’s not something that’s going to slow down. I have no doubt

that (the Chinese market) will get bigger.”

Severino was caught in the Covid-19

crisis in Wuhan where he was training a stable of horses for Mr Zhang

before returning north to Yulong Racecourse in Shanxi Province where he

also cared for his team under strict quarantine restrictions.

“I am in Sydney at the moment. They’ve placed me in a nice hotel, so I

can’t complain. You’ve got to be here for 14 days and I’m walking the box

big time. I have got seven days to go,” he said.

“I have done my fair bit of quarantine this year. Wuhan was quite a

tough time, but I had it easy compared to a lot of people because I wasn’t

locked in an apartment. I was at our training centre, so we were able to

work every day.

“We were just confined to our training centre. Nobody could get out,

nobody could get in. I kept myself busy and the horses ticking over, so that

was quite good.

“After Wuhan we went back to Yulong Jockey Club up north in the

hope that racing would start soon, but it doesn’t

seem that it will resume this year.”

Not only is the prominence of Chinese

owners on the rise, Severino predicts the

country’s horse people would also come to

the fore in the years to come.

He said: “About 20 years ago, one of

the biggest racecourses they built in Asia was

in Beijing, but they have since

closed it. They had expats from

all over the world training there,

but that track has produced a lot

of guys who have since become

trainers.

“I was pitted against Chinese

trainers who had been to Ireland,

America and Australia before

returning to train.

“They are very knowledgeable trainers, so it’s really satisfying to see

the younger generation coming through and that’s where companies like

Yulong and Rider Horse play a big role.

“Yulong, particularly, focuses on young kids by giving them a lot of

support to come through ranks. Mr Zhang is always looking to the future.”

Meanwhile, Severino is excited about being back in Australia which

potentially could become a more permanent move with Chinese racing

remaining grounded.

“It was the boss’s idea to come back and see my family. I haven’t seen

my kids for a long time, so that is why I’ve made the move back as my kids

are in Melbourne,” he said.

"I'm still assessing a few different options and I will make a decision

after the quarantine period."

Colic claims Fighting SunSun Stud stallion Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor)

has died suddenly after a battle with colic. “From

the first day he arrived on the farm as a two-year-

old – after being robbed of his chance at winning a

Golden Slipper – it was hard not to have a soft spot

for the horse… he was just so good to handle,”

Sun Stud’s operations manager David Grant

said. “He was the ‘go-to’ stallion for the new and

less experienced stallion staff, to help build their

confidence. Fighting Sun had such a kind nature

and was always easy to serve mares with. It’s been

17 years since we lost a stallion on the property, so

we are all in shock and are extremely saddened by

his passing.” Unbeaten in two race starts for Gai

Waterhouse including taking out the Canonbury

Stakes (Listed, 1100m) by three lengths before

breaking down, Fighting Sun is the sire of 64

individual winners including Listed victor Chess

Star. He covered 41 mares last year.

Vale DanzeroGolden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner

and Group 1-producing stallion Danzero

(Danehill) has died at the age of 28. The 1994

Slipper hero died peacefully in his paddock at

Rosemont Stud in Victoria where he had been

domiciled for almost a decade. Danzero was

the first Group 1 winner for the all-conquering

Danehill (Danzig), a sire lauded for reshaping

the modern-day Australian thoroughbred

industry. After winning four of his nine starts

and more than $1.3 million in prize-money,

Danzero was retired to stand at Arrowfield Stud

for the 1995 breeding season. He achieved the

rare feat of winning a Slipper and also siring the

winner of the world's richest two-year-old race

when Dance Hero won in 2004. Dance Hero

was among six Group 1 winners for Danzero on

a roll of honour which also included the likes

of Niconero, Fairway, Danglissa, Danni Martine

and Jymcarew. In total, he sired 669 individual

winners from 1042 runners with 40 of his

progeny successful at stakes level.

Rosemont pay tribute to founding stallionRosemont’s flags were lowered to half-mast

yesterday as plans were being made for a tribute

to stand at the front of the office entrance to

honour Danzero. A resident of Rosemont since

his purchase from Arrowfield in 2011, Danzero

covered three seasons before fertility issues saw

him retired from duties. But Rosemont principal

Anthony Mithen said the striking stallion will hold

a special place in the hearts of those at the farm.

“He was the first stallion to stand at Rosemont

and was in fact the only stallion to stand at our

original farm at Ceres.” Mithen said. “He helped

set in motion the stallion business for us and

ultimately the purchase of Rosemont Gnarwarre

from Tony Santic which is now home to our five-

strong stallion roster.”

Winter Championship trifecta to clash againGrahame Begg is hoping Romancer (Redwood)

can go one place better than last year when

the six-year-old takes his chance in Saturday’s

Winter Championship Series Final (Listed,

1600m) at Flemington. The Begg-trained

galloper split Reykjavik (Artie Schiller) and

Holbien (Pierro) when finishing runner-up

12 months ago and the trio are in line to clash

again on the weekend. Romancer will be having

the fourth run of his campaign and Begg said

the gelding’s last start tenth behind another

Winter Championship Series Final nomination,

Heptagon (Jimmy Choux), should be forgotten.

"He didn't draw that well last time and he had a

tough run so I'm hoping he can get a bit more

of a cosier gate and be ridden with a bit of a

cuddle," the trainer said. "The horse has trained

on well since the other day, he looks fantastic,

so I'm happy in that regard, and fourth-up he

should be ready to go."

Harbour Views to undergo further testing

Matthew Williams is hoping the results of a lung

wash will shed some light on the disappointing

performance of Harbour Views (Le Havre) at

Caulfield on Saturday where the gelding could

only manage a fourth place finish behind

Mirimar (Kalanisi) having been sent out the

$2.05 favourite. Racing Victoria stewards

reported Harbour Views lame in the left fore-

leg following the race, however Williams was

not using that as an excuse. The trainer said

Harbour Views was bright on Sunday morning

with no associated heat in any of his joints. "He

seems to be trotting up to me as he normally

would so I'm not making any excuses from

a soundness point of view," Williams said.

"He's getting a lung wash done and I'm more

suspicious in that area." The results of the test

are expected to be known tomorrow.

Peters’ pair to head east for Cox PlateLeading Western Australia owner-breeder

Bob Peters is hoping to gain further success

in Victoria later this year with two runners

being aimed at the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m)

. All-Star Mile (1600m) winner Regal Power

(Pierro) and Group 1 winner Arcadia Queen

(Pierro) are both set to take their chance in

traditional lead-up races to the $5 million

contest. "Regal Power is coming along nicely

and he enjoyed his spell after The All-Star

Mile," Peters told Racing.com. "We'll aim

to get him back around August and then he

can head to the traditional lead-up races."

Arcadia Queen will attempt to recapture the

form which saw her win the Kingston Town

Classic (Gr 1, 1800m) as a three-year-old and

go on to be the favourite for the $7.5 million

Golden Eagle (1500m) last year. "She's had

a long time off now but I'm happy with how

she's going," Peters added. "It'll be good to

see how she goes in Victoria."

Mississippi Delta retiredPeters also announced that Mississippi

Delta (High Chaparral), the winner of ten

races including the Perth Cup (Gr 2, 2400m)

has been retired following a disappointing

performance in the Strickland Stakes (Gr

3, 2000m) at Belmont on Saturday. The six-

year-old mare had failed to win in four starts

since her Ascot triumph back in January,

prompting connections to call time on her

career. "She's been a fantastic mare for us and

she'll go to the breeding barn now," Peters

told Racing.com. "We always planned for her

to have these three runs before retirement,

it's just a shame she found wet tracks for all

of them."

Injury ends Crack Me Up’s careerThe Bjorn Baker-trained Crack Me Up

(Mossman) has been retired after re-

injuring a fetlock when finishing unplaced

in Saturday’s Civic Stakes (Listed, 1350m) at

Rosehill. The gelding won the 2017 Villiers

Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) when trained by Liam

Birchley, while the six-year-old also had stints

with Toby and Trent Edmonds. He was a dual

Group 3 winner after capturing the Sunshine

Coast Guineas (Gr 3, 1600m) at three and

the Liverpool City Cup (Gr 3, 1300m) at four,

which was ultimately his final victory. Crack

Me Up retires with more than $750,000 in

prize-money earnings and will see out his life

at Archer Park in Queensland.

‘Tagaloa biggerand stronger’Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are thrilled

with the progress reigning Blue Diamond Stakes

(Gr 1, 1200m) winner Tagaloa (Lord Kanaloa)

has made during his time in the paddock over

the winter, but the training duo aren’t in any

rush to lock in a spring program for him. "He

had his first run up on Saturday and Michael

Walker actually came up and galloped him on

the course proper,” Young told Racing.com. “He

said he (Tagaloa) has come back a lot bigger

and stronger and gave him a fantastic feel.

We will probably kick him off in the McNeil

(Stakes), the Group 3 at Caulfield. That or the

we get closer to

the time.”

Pat Hyland retiresAfter more than 60 years in racing as a jockey

and a successful trainer, Pat Hyland has retired.

Ill-health has forced Hyland to step away from a

training partnership with his son Chris to spend

time on his farm in rural Victoria. Inducted into

the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2016,

Hyland is one of only eight jockeys to have won

Australian racing's grand slam - the Melbourne

Cup (Gr 1, 3200m), Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m),

Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) and Golden Slipper

Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m). "He rode trackwork until

he was 74 and then he slowed down a little bit in

the last few years," Chris Hyland told RSN927.

"He's had a few little health issues, but overall

he's not too bad at the moment."

McDonald to appeal banJames McDonald is set to appeal the three-

week suspension he received for his ride on

Threeood (Star Witness) earlier this month,

which was deemed 'half-hearted' by Racing

NSW stewards. McDonald was banned for

the bulk of July when he was found guilty of a

AR129(2) charge for 'Running and Handling' for

his effort on Joe Pride’s mare. The rule states: "A

rider must take all reasonable and permissible

measures throughout the race to ensure that

the rider’s horse is given full opportunity to

win or to obtain the best possible place in the

field". McDonald said yesterday he felt the ban

was 'very harsh' and confirmed his intention to

appeal as had been indicated at Friday's inquiry

at Racing NSW headquarters.

NSW track rider injuredGeorge Roberts, a trackwork rider for trainer

Richard Litt, suffered a fall at Warwick Farm

yesterday. He has a suspected abdominal

injury after his mount reared over on top of

him and was transported to Liverpool Hospital

for further observation. Racing NSW's Dr.

Duckworth reported that Roberts was rushed

to surgery with a ruptured spleen. He may also

have some fractured ribs and will be in hospital

for the next few days recovering.

Feel The Rush heads to AustraliaKelvin Tyler’s New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1,

2400m) placegetter Feel The Rush (Proisir)

has joined Ciaron Maher and David Eustace’s

Sydney barn, however, Tyler’s brother Allan

and sister-in-law Marie have retained a half-

share in the promising filly. “My brother

actually owned her, so he has kept half a

share, so it works out quite well,” said Tyler,

who trains in partnership with his daughter

Aimee. “My brother already has a horse over

with Ciaron at Ballarat, so we knew him a

little bit and Allan was quite keen for her to

go over to Ciaron’s, so it fell into place quite

nicely.” The daughter of Proisir (Chosir)

had produced three wins prior to her Oaks

placing and Tyler believes she has the talent

High hopes for Lightning JackMeanwhile, Tyler has also fielded a few offers for

Feel The Rush’s dual stakes-winning stablemate

Lightning Jack (Per Incanto). The gelding won

the Gore Guineas (Listed, 1335m) and Southland

Guineas (Listed, 1600m) before finishing third

in the Wellington Guineas (Gr 2, 1400m) and his

connections have rebuffed a couple of offers for

the rising four-year-old. “He is quite exciting,”

Tyler said. “He is a good horse and could have

easily gone over to Australia as well. My brother

and sister-in-law own him as well and they

are quite keen to have a horse racing in New

Zealand.” Tyler is looking forward to Lightning

Jack returning to the stable in

the coming weeks

and is aiming him

towards a return

over the New

Zealand Cup (Gr 3,

3200m) carnival in

November.

Takarazuka Kinen winner favourite for Cox Plate

Chrono Genesis (Bago) leapt to the head of the

betting for the Cox Plate after the four-year-old

mare gained an automatic start in the race by

blitzing her rivals in Sunday’s Takarazuka Kinen

(Gr 1, 2200m) at Hanshin. Australian bookmakers

elevated Chrono Genesis to the top line of Cox

Plate betting as an $11 equal-favourite. Seven

horses share that quote, including the Japanese

pair Almond Eye (Lord Kanaloa) and Danon

Premium (Deep Impact). Chrono Genesis is

eligible for a $1 million bonus should she emulate

Lys Gracieux (Heart’s Cry) in completing the

Takarazuka Kinen-Cox Plate double.

Russian Emperor spearheads O’Brien’s Epsom challengeRoyal Ascot winner Russian Emperor (Galileo)

is one of seven entries for Aidan O’Brien in

Saturday’s Epsom Derby (Gr 1, 1m 4f), as the

champion trainer eyes his eighth victory in the

British classic. The Hampton Court Stakes (Gr

3, 1m 2f) victor, who is out of four-time Group

1 winner Atlantic Jewel (Fastnet Rock), sits

shortest in the betting of the O’Brien septet who

feature among the 17 entries made for the race

yesterday. The colt is as short as 13-2 with just

Lingfield Derby Trial (Listed, 1m 3.5f) winner

English King (Camelot) and Kameko (KItten’s

Joy), winner of the 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m),

ahead of him in the market.

Marquand keen on Derby rideTom Marquand may have lost the ride on

favourite English King but the in-form rider has

not given up hope of playing more than just a

supporting role on Saturday, having picked up

the ride on Khalifa Sat (Free Eagle). Marquand

impressed on the Ahmad Al Shaikh-owned colt

when landing the Cocked Hat Stakes (Listed, 1m

3f) at Goodwood and, with Frankie Dettori taking

over on English King, trainer Andrew Balding has

wasted no time in securing Marquand to renew

his association with Khalifa Sat. "I think he holds

attributes that are pretty strong factors in whether

you run well or not at Epsom," said Marquand

when assessing his partner's chance. "He showed

at Goodwood he handles a tricky track, he's shown

he's capable of winning, has a great attitude and

he's pretty versatile with the ground. It's great to

have a ride in the race and a decent ride at that."

BY HARRY TROY | @RACINGMACAU

Geoff Allendorf has an anxious

wait to see if his talented galloper

Beauty Wink (Medaglia d’Oro)

gains a berth in next month’s

Macau Derby (Listed, 1800m) to be run on July

19, following his impressive win in Sunday’s

Class 3 (1500m).

Fired out of the gates by Brazilian Fausto

Henrique, Beauty Wink took command of the

race from the outset and ran out an easy one

and three quarter length winner over Fortune

Generation (Pour Moi), with Autumn Cloud

(New Approach) in third.

The win gave the good looking son of

Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado) his third win from

only six starts with one second placing and two

luckless unplaced efforts.

Prior to the race, Allendorf was adamant

that Beauty Wink was not fully wound up

having only one run since January, but added

that he thought he had done enough to take out

Sunday’s race.

“It’s been a difficult time for him as he has

had hoof issues and had to miss the Derby Trial

and the Guineas but for the moment things are

good with him.” Allendorf said.

“I’d be expecting a penalty of eight points

and upwards for this win so that will bring him

up on the borderline for a Derby run. I don’t

really want to run him again before the Derby

but I’ll just wait and see.”

Allendorf already has the ultra consistent

Oneofthegreats in the Derby field following

his game third in the Macau Guineas (Listed,

1500m), and with Beauty Wink he has a horse

whose potential is still untapped.

Beauty Wink was originally earmarked for

Hong Kong following two impressive barrier

trial wins at Cranbourne but was found to be

blind in the offside eye. Macau being one of the

few jurisdictions in the world that allows one

eyed horses to compete was then the logical

choice for owners Kwok Siu Ming and David

Price.

Allendorf knows what it takes to win a

Derby having won the blue riband event with

Lucky And Wealthy (Strada) under German

rider Andy Helfenbein in 2013, and again with

Turquoise Power (More Than Ready) with Joao

Moreira in the saddle in 2016.

The win by Beauty Wink gave Allendorf a

double for the afternoon having won the first

of the day, the Class 5 & 6 (1500m) with bolter

Luen On Prodigy (Husson) ridden by Stephane

Ladjadj.

The most impressive winner on Sunday

was no doubt the Patrick Lee-trained Crispy

Biscuit (Written Tycoon) who overcame huge

difficulties to win the Class 2 (1200m).

Ridden by Peter Ho, Crispy Biscuit was

badly checked out of the gates and was a clear

last on settling. In a typical Peter Ho ride, the

talented hoop let the horse balance up and

then began to work his way up to the tail of

the field.

The gelding struck more trouble when he

began to overace and got on the heels of a few

stragglers at the eight hundred corner, before

threading a path through the field. Once in the

straight, the son of Written Tycoon (Iglesia)

powered home over the top of his rivals to win

by two lengths from the bolter Royal Good

Friend (Golden Archer), with Destiny’s Choice

(Sepoy) in third.

Crispy Biscuit has now won three races

from only five starts in Macau and is no doubt

destined for Class 1 given his brilliant display

on Sunday. Prior to being imported to Macau,

the gelding raced in Queensland as Shaken Not

Stirred and won two races at Ipswich over 1100

and 1200 metres when prepared by Matthew

Park.

Lee later made it a double when his old

timer Mission Gdragon (Jet Spur) took out the

Class 3 & 4 (1200m) to also give Henrique a

double for the afternoon.

Mission Gdragon, a rising eight-year-old

has been a great money-spinner for owners

Mr. and Mrs. Cheng Win Bor, having won nine

races in the enclave and placed a further 21

times from his 75 starts, earning close to HK$3.2

million prize-money.

The son of Jet Spur (Flying Spur) was the

very first winner from the original Online Magic

Millions 2YO’s in Training Sales from 2014.

The sale for the very first time was streamed

live to the MJC Members Lounge and was

the forerunner to the successful concept that

can continues to produce a steady stream of

winners in the enclave. Mission Gdragon has

proved a real steal for his owners being only a

AU$32,000 purchase, and judging by Sunday’s

victory the old boy is not done with yet.

Golden Conqueror (Rothesay) made it

seven wins from only eight runs when he again

gave a dazzling display of speed to win Class 1 &

2 (1050m) on Friday night.

Ridden by regular jockey Roger Yu, Golden

Conqueror flew the gates to cross from barrier

12 to lead easily and stretched his lead to a four

lengths margin on straightening. Second place

getter Loxwood (Pierro) momentarily looked

as though he was going to make a race of it

when he went out after the three year old son of

Rothesay (Fastnet Rock), but like a good horse

Golden Conqueror pulled out plenty to score

untroubled. Oriental Profit (Mastercraftsman)

ran on well from the back from third.

Golden Conqueror has proved a great buy

for his connections the Golden Pistols Racing

Syndicate having been purchased for only

AU$55,000 at the 2018 Inglis Ready 2 Race

Sale, that was conducted at the Inglis Riverside

Stables Complex at Warwick Farm.

Roger Yu enjoyed a big weekend booting

home four winners in all.

As well as Golden Conqueror, Yu was

successful on the very promising Akeli Sword

(Dissident) for trainer Alan Tam in the Class 4

over (1050m).

Akeli Swords made it three wins from five

starts all on the sand with an easy victory over Star

Of Yiu Sun (Swiss Ace), with race favorite Diamond

Moonlight (The Wow Signal) back in third.

Still So Cute (Thewayyouare) also from the Alan

Tam yard gave Yu a treble on Friday night with an

all the way win in the Class 3 (1510m), then the duo

backed up again on Sunday with Die Casting Alloy

(Dream Ahead) winning the Class 5 & 6 (1500m) to

make it three for the weekend for Tam.

Power - Oaklands Stud resident Power

(Oasis Dream) sired his 12th individual stakes

winner when Wakanaka (2 f ex Storyline by

Kodiac) took out Sunday’s Premio Vittoria

Crespi (Listed, 1200m) at Milan. Wakanaka is

the only winner from two to race out of Storyline

(Kodiac) who herself is out of the Listed-placed

Petite Histoire (Desert Story). Wakanaka joins

the likes of Gift Of Power and Peace Envoy as

a juvenile stakes winner for Power, who stands

at Oaklands Stud in New Zealand for a fee of

NZ$11,000 in 2020.

Sea The Stars - Godolphin runner Volkan

Star (3 g ex Chicago Dancer by Azamour) took

the honours in the Fairway Stakes (Listed,

1m2f) at Newmarket on Saturday for Charlie

Appleby and became the 64th individual stakes

winner for Sea The Stars (Cape Cross). Sea The

Stars stands at the Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud

in Ireland where his fee for 2020 was €150,000

(AUS$245,000 approx).

Silvano - South Africa’s four-time

champion sire Silvano (Lomitas) closed

in on his century of stakes winners when

Imperial Ruby (3 g ex Ruby Necklace by

Sadler’s Wells) moved him on to the 97 mark

courtesy of his win in the Bidvest Gold Bowl

(Gr 3, 3200m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

Silvano, whose son Hawwaam won his fifth

Group 1 race earlier on the card, stands

Maine Chance Farm in South Africa.

Snitzel - Arrowfield Stud’s Snitzel

(Redoute’s Choice) registered his 103rd

individual stakes winner on Saturday when Sure

Knee (4 m ex Shawnee Girl by Encosta De Lago)

took out the Sapphire Stakes (Gr 3, 1630m) at

Doomben. Snitzel, who is in contention for his

fourth consecutive Australian Champion Sire

title this season, will stand for $165,000 (inc

GST) in the upcoming season.

Vancouver - Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1,

1200m) winner Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro)

produced his first stakes winner as a stallion

on Saturday when Mount Pleasant (2 c ex Life

In A Metro by Fastnet Rock) took out the South

African Nursery (Gr 2, 1160m) at Turffontein.

Purchased for $90,000 at last year’s Melbourne

Premier Yearling Sale, Mount Pleasant is out

of Life In A Metro (Fastnet Rock), a half-sister

to Group 1 winners Abbey Marie (Redoute’s

Choice) and Absolutely (Redoute’s Choice)

as well as the Group 1-placed Runaway

(Manhattan Rain). Also in the family are

Japanese stallion Kinshasa No Kiseki (Fuji

Kiseki) and this season’s Doncaster Mile (Gr 1,

1600m) winner Nettoyer (Sebring). Vancouver

will stand for $30,250 (inc GST) at Coolmore

Stud this year.

Zebedee - The late Zebedee (Invincible

Spirit) sired his 11th individual stakes winner

when Pogo (4 c ex Cute by Diktat) took out the

Midsummer Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Windsor

on Sunday. Purchased for €10,500 at the Goffs

November Foal before being pinhooked for

£32,000 at the Goffs UK Doncaster Premier

Yearling Sale, Pogo is out of stakes performer

Cute (Diktat). Cute is out of Danehill (Danzig)

mare Gleam Of Light, making her a half-

sister Pikaboo (Pivotal) who is the dam of last

month’s 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) winner Love

(Galileo). Zebedee stood at Cornerstone Stud

for five seasons before dying in 2019.
