OUT AND ABOUT

Sydney Festival, January 9 - 27 The annual festival kicks off month and runs from the 9th until the 27th all around Sydney. There is an abundance of free and paid events. Some must-catch free events include Apollo 11 at Barangaroo, Nick Cave: Until, Moon Drops at Darling Harbour and even the Circus. Make sure to check out all the culture and fun Sydney has to offer!

Australia Day Celebrations, January 26 On Saturday the 26th, Australia celebrates it's lifestyle, culture, livelihood and multiculturalism. Enjoy the fantastic events around Sydney at Australia Day Live 2019. Watch musicians, artists, a flotilla of yachts, jet-skis and boats as well as a spectacular fireworks display at Circular Quay.

Inner West Fiesta, January 20 The Inner West Fiesta is a Community Festival created to celebrate Latin American Culture in Sydney. Enjoy a day of Salsa, Samba and Reggaeton as well as competitive dance performances, DJ sets, and an abundance of fun activities for kids such as a jumping castle, face-painting and a petting zoo.

LIVE SHOWS

From January 8 until April 14,

the new musical version of

Charlie and the Chocolate

Factory is showing at the

Capitol Theatre. The musical is

based more on Roald Dahl's

book than the films, but does

feature songs from the classic

1971 film.

The show has just concluded a

three-year run on the West End,

and a short time on Broadway.

It is a must see event, and a

particularly good one to keep

the younger family members

excited, entertained and

enthralled in a classic story!

On the 19th of January one of

the most well-loved Sydney

Festival events, Symphony

Under The Stars, returns to

Parramatta. It’s the perfect

evening for families and friends

to pack a hamper, grab a

blanket, and settle back in a

Sydney summer dusk to enjoy

beautiful music.

In this free event, the Sydney

Symphony Orchestra performs

a selection of iconic film music

and well-known classical

favourites.

Outdoor cinemas are all the rage this

month, with many venues to choose

from. Whether you go to Mrs

Macquaries Point, Darling Harbour or

even North Sydney Oval, you will be

sure to have a good time. Watch

great films such as Bohemian

Rhapsody, Aquaman and Pulp

Fiction whilst laying back beneath

the stars in Sydney's fresh air. Pack a

blanket (and maybe even a bean

bag) for extra comfort, recline back,

put your feet up, and enjoy the show!

OPEN AIR THEATRE IS BACK!

ONE INFINITY

A truly immersive Sydney Festival

Dance performance called 'One

Infinity' is showing in Everleigh

from the 23rd to the 27th of

January. One Infinity is a

hypnotic, cross-cultural music

and dance collaboration, in

which the audience are also

performers. The show brings

together contemporary

movement and traditional

Chinese music in a meditative

yet electrifying experience.

CHATSWOOD YEAR OF THE PIG

FESTIVAL

From the 29th of January

until February 19th,

Chatswood celebrates the

Lunar New Year with this

huge cultural festival. Get

lost among the dragons

and lanterns at the Golden

Market in Chatswood Mall,

there will be many stalls

offering food, toys,

decorations, flowers and

clothes to take into the

New Year. Get your

picture with the giant

inflatable pig, or chase the

pig mascot around the

stalls.

Enjoy the wonderful

flavours of China, Korea ,

Thailand, Vietnam and

more with a Taste of Asia

Food Tour and, after

dinner, take the kids to

see Flicks with Piglets at

Chatswood's Concourse.
