Did you know that dragons lurk in the Cathedral? In fact, there are lots of animals and fantastical creatures to discover in the Cathedral’s stained glass, carved stone, and amazing objects.
Gregory Gargoyle has chosen 10 of his favourite animals for you to find - including birds, cats, dogs, and even wyverns!
Gregory’s Hidden History Hunt – FREE*
Gregory Gargoyle loves to discover things about the Cathedral, and he has hidden 10 of his favourite facts around The Precincts for you to find.
In our outdoor Precincts trail, use Gregory’s map to uncover each of these facts and use them to answer Gregory’s Cathedral quiz.

Adrian BawtreeFri, 15 October 2021, 19.30
Acting Assistant Organist Adrian Bawtree also teaches the organ at The King’s School, St Edmund’s School, and privately. He conducts the Canterbury Singers and Cantores Dominicae, and is a composer.
His recital programme will feature music by J.S. Bach, Louis Vierne, Guy Bovet, and C.H.H. Parry.

Passacaglias, Chorales and Riffs: Jamie RogersFri, 19 November 2021, 19.30
An established jazz pianist, Jamie enjoys a varied musical career. He is a professional church musician; working as the Assistant Director of Music at St Marylebone Parish Church, London and as Acting Second Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral.
Jamie’s performance will include pieces by Buxtehude, Liszt, and Handel.

This recital presents an opportunity to hear the works of Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, and Franck reimagined for Piano and Organ, exploring opportunities and potential beyond the ink left on the page.

Medieval Pilgrimage: Faith, fun, or folly?Thu, 21 October 2021, 10.30Nicholas Orme, emeritus professor at Exeter University and an honorary canon of Truro Cathedral, will discuss who went on medieval pilgrimages and why their motives for doing so attracted critisism at the time.
Heraldry in the CloisterMon, 1 November 2021, 14.30Dr Paul Fox, author of Great Cloister: A Lost Canterbury Tale will present the results of his study of the heraldry, genealogy, and history of the Canterbury Cathedral Cloister.

Viewing Gallery: Crafting the Cathedral
A must for model enthusiasts and fans of architecture, this exhibition features exquisite 1:720 scale replicas of famous cathedrals, crafted in cardboard and wood, between 1840-1850, by model maker William Gorringe.
Water Tower Corridor: Chalices, Flagons and Patens
Church practice through the centuries has been full of variety, and this can be seen in the objects used in worship, from simple communion cups to decorated chalices.
Water Tower: Monastic Life
In this interactive exhibition in the Cathedral’s newly restored Water Tower, discover what day-to-day life was like for Canterbury’s monks.

Discover the story of Canterbury Cathedral through its soaring architecture, beautiful medieval stained glass and the history that helped make and shape the Cathedral in to the place it is today. This tour is mostly inside.

Join us as we travel through some of our public gardens and discover how these spaces, created over centuries, are still used and tended by our gardening team today. This tour is entirely outside. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Mini talks – FREE*
Enjoy a bite-size exploration of the Cathedral’s history with a free 15-minute mini talk from our volunteer guides. Whether it’s WWI memorials, Henry IV, the Chapter House, the Great Cloister, Thomas Becket or something else entirely, our knowledgeable guides will share with you fascinating insights and little-known facts about their favourite aspects of the Cathedral.
Mini talks start at quarter past the hour, and the meeting point is at the west end of the Nave, near the entrance.
