Express Tables from SPSS Data extends its table creation capability by offering a new option to create multiple tables from selected variables with one Frequency row per table.

For your convenience, multiple Factor Analysis specification files per job can be saved and loaded when needed.

New maximum of 1024 characters per Glossary statement provides greater flexibility when defining, assigning, recoding, computing or looping through variables and creating INDEX or TEST statements.

Reducing the number of Glossary statements just got easier now that Glossary looping allows the use of DEFINE statements.

Identify problem data more quickly with Glossary TEST statements now allowing the use of variables defined in the Glossary.

Save time redefining long logic with the new limit of 1024 characters per logic line.

The CALC feature has been expanded and can now process Standard Error and Standard Deviation.

Effective sample size can now be specified for Column display suppression/denotation and Column testing suppression/denotation for added flexibility in identifying small sample sizes.

WinCross now provides another statistical preference option allowing you to choose the Median and/or Quartile type of Interpolated or Medoid for your tables.

The convenience of “Drag and drop” has been added for Memorized report files.

Save lots of editing time now that Row Options can be specified for more than one row at a time.

The new Statistic decimal places and Variability decimal places row options provide more detailed report customization.

The new simplified process for adding Frequency rows to your tables takes the guess work out of this task.

The Suppress blank lines after sig. and Position of significance indicators options, previously only available for Excel reports from the Run Tables dialog, are now available for use with Enhanced Text Reports allowing for greater report-formatting flexibility.

Sample Balancing now offers the Calculate to a custom sample size option previously available for Simple Weighting only.

Setup Menu options for Job Title and Plain Text Report Font have been incorporated into the Job Settings tabs to help streamline the job setup process.

The Setup Menu option of Enhanced Text Report Fonts and Colors is now routed to a new Job Settings tab to further streamline the job setup process.

More user-friendly streamlining changes include new Move Up, Move Down and Delete options for tables, new Move Up, Move Down, Delete and Reverse options for rows and the logical rearranging of other Setup Tables options.

The Renumber option on the Setup Tables dialog can now be used for a selected group of contiguous tables helping to simplify the table renumbering process.

The Table Presentation tab of Job Settings now lets you specify a different blank cell character based on the entire column being blank from the blank cell character used when only some cells in a column are blank.

The Show values, Show percents and Show labels options are now available for most chart types giving you more control over the chart detail provided.

Most of the text dialog boxes in WinCross now allow you to enter up to four lines of text using the return key for text breaks alleviating the need for pipe characters in those text boxes.

Combine, Sort and Merge for SPSS Data Files

The Tools menu now offers a new Combine, Sort and Merge SPSS Files option. This new option allows you to combine, sort or merge SPSS (*.sav) or comma-delimited (*.csv) data files into one SPSS (*.sav) data file.

You can:

Join two files together (Add variables) Merge two or more files together (Add records) Sort a file by one or more variables

The Join option is especially useful in joining closed end and open end questions from two separate files into one SPSS (*.sav) file.

The Merge option can be helpful for example, when you want to merge wave one of a study with wave two of a study into one SPSS (*.sav) file that can be processed together.

See the WinCross online Help topic “Tools Menu|Combine, Sort and Merge SPSS Files” for more detailed information about this new feature.

Save SPSS Data Files to Delimited File Types

You can now save your SPSS data file as a comma-delimited (*.csv) or tab-delimited (*.tsv or *.tab) file using File|Save|Save Data As. Your delimited file can then be opened in Excel and saved as an Excel (*.xlsx or *.xls) file.

See the WinCross online Help topic “Save Data As” for more detailed information about saving your SPSS data file.

New File|Save|Save Data Option

The File|Save menu has a new Save Data option that allows you to save data file changes to the currently open data file. The changes are saved and the modified data file is automatically reloaded for you.

See the WinCross online Help topic “Save Data” for more detailed information about saving changes to your data file.

SPSS Data Files Opened in Edit Mode by Default

SPSS data files are now automatically opened in “edit mode” by default. You have the option to Open in read-only mode on the Open Data dialog when opening an SPSS data file.

This new default allows you to make those last minute data changes without having to reopen the data file for edit mode.

See the WinCross online Help topic “Open Data” for more detailed information about this new default.

New SPSS Differing “Print” and “Write” Formats

When opening an SPSS data file in WinCross 15, WinCross now detects when variables have differing Print (Width, Decimals or Format) formats (Print Format in SPSS is Field Format in WinCross) and Write (Width, Decimals or Format) formats (Write Format in SPSS is Export Format in WinCross).

You have the option to let WinCross adjust the widths and save the data file for you or to cancel and make the corrections manually using SPSS.

See the WinCross online Help topic “Print Width differs from Write Width warning” for more detailed information about this new warning message and the options available.

Create Multiple Banners from Multiple Tables

The Create Banners from Tables option of Setup|Banners will now let you select multiple tables at once.

The table rows from the selected tables become the banner columns for the new banners. You cannot choose the Table rows to use for Banner columns when multiple tables are selected.

The Table title from the selected banner becomes the Banner name and Banner title for the new banner.

This option is especially useful if you want to create a group of banners from a group of tables (for example, a set of product rating scales). Once created, you can assign banner options to the first new banner using Edit Banner. Then, use the new Apply Options to Similar Banners feature to copy the options from the first new rating scale banner to the remainder of the new rating scale banners without having to individually assign the same options to each banner.

See the WinCross online Help topic “Create Banners from Tables” for more detailed information about the new multi-select functionality for creating banners.

Apply Options to Similar Banners

The new Apply Options to Similar Banners feature of Setup|Banners lets you copy specific banner options from one banner to other similar banners as long as the similar banners have the same number of columns as the original banner.

This option is especially useful if you want to create a group of banners from a group of tables (for example, a set of product rating scales). Using Create Banners from Tables, you can create multiple banners from multiple tables at one time. Once created, you can assign banner options to the first new banner using Edit Banner. Apply Options to Similar Banners allows you to copy the options from the first new rating scale banner to the remainder of the new rating scale banners without having to individually assign the same options to each banner.

Banner options applied include options from the following tabs/options on the Banner Editor dialog:

Width and Spacing tab Options tab Horizontal/Constant Percents tab Weights tab Comparison Groups tab Statistical Testing

See the WinCross online Help topic “Apply Options to Similar Banners” for more detailed information about this new feature.

Banner Editor Features

The Edit Banner option of Setup|Banners has some new noteworthy features. New features include New page before column and Background column color on the Options tab and Edit Comparison Groups As Text on the Comparison Groups tab.

The New page before column option on the Options tab of the Banner Editor lets you specify a page break for banners that, when printing will span multiple pages.

The Background column color option on the Options tab of the Banner Editor lets you assign background color to a column or groups of column (for example, all of the columns in a Comparison Group) for easier identification.

Note: The new Background column color option takes precedence over Background Colors assigned to Comparison Groups for Enhanced Text Reports or Excel Reports.

String Substitution for USE Statements

The USE statement that lets you use already-created rows in a new table has been enhanced to include string substitution.

For example, if your original table has the following row logic:

Quality of support^ Q1_SALES_SUPPORT (1)^

Timeliness of support^ Q2_SALES_SUPPORT (2)^

Follow-up^ Q3_SALES_SUPPORT (3)^

and you have a new table that will use the same row text and the only difference in the logic is a portion of the variable names used (Q1_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT, Q2_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT and Q3_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT), the new string substitution for USE statements is the perfect solution:

USE=Q1-3,”SALES”=”TECHNICAL” (where Q1-3 is the table name of the original table)

or

USE=10,”SALES”=”TECHNICAL” (where 10 is the index number of the Q1-3 table)

See the WinCross online Help topic “Use Rows for more detailed information about this new string substitution for the USE statement.

Save, Browse and Cell Borders Excel Options

Excel Options can now be saved for future use taking the guesswork out of trying to remember what options you specified the last time you processed a particular set of tables. The new options of Cell borders and Show or hide % sign as specified in Table Options provide more customization preferences for your Excel reports.

The new Plain output option produces an Excel report with no background colors and no cell borders. This is a quick and easy way to disable background colors and cell borders.

Use the new Save and Save As options to save Excel Options for a particular job. The Saved Excel options dropdown list allows you to choose from a list of previously saved Excel Options located in the same folder as your job and data file, or use Browse to find Excel Options saved in a different location.

Express Tables from SPSS Data

The Summary of Frequencies option of Express Tables from SPSS Data has two new options that will save you editing time when creating tables.

Use value labels as row text can be used when only one Code Value is specified when creating Summary of Frequencies tables. This is especially helpful when you have a group of variables and the code value you are interested in for each variable also has the value label you would like as your row text. For example, if variables Q7_1 through Q7_10 all have code values of “1” or “0” were the code value “1” also has the value label for each fast food restaurant visited in the last 30 days, you would want those value labels to be used as row text.

The default for Summary of Frequencies tables is to suppress the filter row. The new Show filter row option gives you the opportunity to edit this default.

See the WinCross online Help topic “Express Tables from SPSS Data” for more detailed information about using these new options.

Create One or Many Tables with One Frequency Row Each

Express Tables from SPSS Data has a new table creation option for creating tables with Frequency rows. You have the option to Create 1 Table with a Single Frequency Row when only one variable is selected or to Create n Tables with One Freq. Row Each when multiple variables are selected.

A Frequency row will generate a row for each value using the actual values in the data as row text.

See the WinCross online Help topic “Express Tables from SPSS Data” for more detailed information about using this new option.

Glossary Statements

There is a new maximum of 1024 characters per Glossary statement. This new maximum provides greater flexibility for use in DEFINE, ASSIGN, RECODE, COMPUTE and LOOP statements.

To help reduce the total number of Glossary statements, you can now use DEFINE statements within Glossary looping.

Glossary TEST statements now allow the use of variables defined in the Glossary helping to identify problem data more quickly.

See the WinCross online Help topics “Glossary Variables”, “Looping logic” or “Glossary Tests and Global Variables” for more detailed information about using these new features.
