Dear 4-H Members, Local Leaders, Volunteers, Teachers, and Principals:
The Marion County 4-H team hopes everyone had a wonderful summer! School is starting
back so we are getting ready to begin 4-H Club Meetings as well. This year Marion
County 4-H will meet in September. We have lots of fun events coming up this club year
and we are looking forward to an excellent school year with you all! We are always
looking for new ideas, events, or programs so if you have any special requests you would
like to share please call or email the 4-H Agent. Have a Great School Year!

The Alabama 4-H State Competitive Events Day was held July 28th at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana, Alabama. Youth from all over Alabama competed against one another in specific 4-H Project Areas. Marion County 4-H sponsored eight Marion County 4-H Round-Up winners to attend this year’s State Competitive Events Day. All Marion County Youth were recognized at the
Awards Program.
The Marion County participants in the State Competitive Events Day are (back row, from Left) Ross Reed Hamilton Middle School second place in Speak Up Alabama Persuasive Speech, Trevor Byrd Hamilton High School 2016/2017 Alabama 4-H State Ambassador President, Zackary Hill Hackleburg High School first place in Interior Design, Harrison Falls New Hope Christian Homeschool Honorable Mention in What Wood You Build Woodworking Project. (Front Row, from left) Heather GettingsBrilliant High School third place in the World I See Photography Project, Robin Brantley Winfield High School first place in Freestyle Demonstration, Allison Swinney Hamilton Middle School First Place in Project Green Thumb, Selena Outz Hackleburg High School Second Place in The World I Imagine Altered Photography Project, and Abraham Humphrey Brilliant High School First Place in Speak Up Alabama Informative Speech. We are so proud of the 4-H'ers that made it to State Competitive Events Day! Their hard work paid off as they are now the state winners in their project areas. August 20th 4-H Event: Shotgun Shoot and RiverKids Free Event in
Brilliant, AL
Ever wanted to try kayaking or shoot sporting clays? Come out to the Marion County
4-H Shotgun Shoot and RiverKids Event on August 20th! Youth will try out our new Clay
Thrower provided by a NRA Grant and get a chance to float around the lake using the
4-H RiverKids Kayaks. Come see if you want to get involved in 4-H this year or just
come out to enjoy this free event with us! Call the Extension Office or email the 4-H
Agent to sign up. More details can be found on the event website or our Marion County

youth consent form, and shooting sports liability form must be completed before youth
can participate. Check the website for ‘What to Bring’. Paperwork will be available at
the event location, can be picked up at the Marion County Extension Office, or can be

4-H Chick Chain Home Visits began in JULY! The Marion County 4-H team has enjoyed visiting each 4-Her this summer for our
scheduled Chick Chain Home Visits. Keep up the good work 4-Hers! Don’t forget
you have to turn in your Record Book at the Showmanship Clinic, August 27th.
Be working with your 2 birds of the same breed that you plan to show! The
Show and Auction will be held Thursday, September 22nd at the Muscle Shoals
Fair Grounds. If you need an excuse from school please contact the Extension

Shooting Sports Invitational Tournaments and Buckmaster’s Expo Sign up for the 2016 Alabama 4-H S.A.F.E Youth Shooting Sport Invitational Tournaments Open to All Youth ages 9-18! Registration is open and the cost is $25. Youth will receive free admission to the Buckmaster's Expo. The Expo is the largest event of its kind in the world, featuring demonstrations, hundreds of vendors, “Young Bucks” activities for youth, door prizes, live concerts and entertainment, and the Top Bow World Championship.

4-H Shotgun Club Event When: Saturday, August 20th, 1:30PM –
3:00PM
Where: 1590-2204 County Highway 8
Brilliant, AL 35548 (see map on website)
Ages: Only youth 9-18 will be permitted to
attend this event. (Youth ages 9-15 MUST be
accompanied by an adult)
Cost: Free or Donations Appreciated
What To Bring:
-Closed toed shoes must be worn. Lawn
chair if you wish.
-You must provide your own firearm.
Anything from a .410 gauge up to 12 gauge.
-You must supply your own ammunition.
Anything from 6 shot up to 9 shot.
Preferably 7.5-8 shot.
-Safety glasses and ear protection must be
worn at all times. If you don’t have them
they will be provided for you.
-Shooting Sports coaches will check your
firearm upon arrival to make sure the action
is open and the safety is on. You will turn in
your ammunition upon arrival to ensure
4-H RiverKids Event
When: Saturday, August 20th, starting
at 3:00PM-Until
Ages: Only youth ages 9-18 will be permitted
to attend this RiverKids event.
Cost: Free or Donations Appreciated
What To Wear/Bring:
Bring drinks/snacks and a lawn chair if you
wish. Wear a hat/sunglasses if you wish and
wear sunscreen! Please wear closed toed
shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting
wet/dirty (just in case).
