    NDC PANEL DISCUSSION

    The UWI Institute of International Relations, the Organi-zation of American States (OAS) Trinidad and Tobagoand the Ministry of National Security, National DrugUnit, hosted a panel discussion on the recently releasedOAS Report on the Drug Problem in the Americas. Thesession was held at the Noor Hassanali Lecture Theatre,Faculty of Law, The University of the West Indies, St.Augustine on Monday 22nd July, 2013. The Minister ofNational Security delivered brief remarks.

    ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE SPANISH

    LANGUAGE PROGRAMME

    Since the launch of the Spanish Lan-

    guage Programme in 2008, there

    have been major advances in ex-

    panding employees knowledge of

    Spanish. Highlighting the achieve-

    ments under the tenure of the cur-

    rent Coordinator, since 2011 are: The management of two (2) cy-

    cles of Latin Dancing.

    Publication of a bilingual version

    (English-Spanish) of the Ministrys

    internal telephone directory for Temple Courts I and II.

    Development of Spanish Phrasebooks for the Immigration

    Division and Fire Service.

    Installation of Bilingual Signage (English-Spanish) at the

    Police Service Administration Building.

    Bilingual Signage (English-Spanish) Project for the Prison

    Service (a former Division of the Ministry of National

    Security).

    A total of twenty-eight (28) officers in General Admin-

    istration have been trained in Basic Spanish

    A total of twenty-five (25) officers in General Administra-

    tion have been trained in lower Intermediate Spanish

    A total of seven (7) officers have been trained in Upper

    Intermediate Spanish

    Provides support for all Units/Sections/Departments and

    Divisions within the Ministry to source translations and

    interpretation services when required.
