It gives me great pleasure to write this foreword to our What’s On beginning in October and ending in March 2016. During this period our 90 acres of landscaped parkland will slowly transform into a blaze of autumnal colours and provide a perfect scene to savour during our guests’ visit or stay. These scenes are echoed throughout the Chilterns which provide magnificent walks, and at the nearby stately homes and gardens of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

We continue to offer special breaks available until December, and the popular Festive Season will once again be celebrated with our usual exemplary style and service. Our Head Chef provides the finest seasonal fare served in our award winning restaurant, complemented by a carefully selected wine list with something for every palate.

As you will read in this edition we have included a brief history of one of our regal four poster bedrooms, the Duchess D’Angloume Room, and I encourage you to take part in the competition for a night’s stay with dinner, and sample life living like a Royal. We have again arranged a cross section of events, some new to Hartwell, to appeal to all tastes and please book early to avoid disappointment. Details about Christmas 2015 and our New Year celebrations can be found in the centre pages.

I am sure that whatever kind of celebration you have in mind Hartwell will provide you with an enjoyable and memorable experience in an exceptional setting. We look forward to welcoming old and new friends.

To treat a friend, relative or colleague to lunch at Hartwell House is to pay them the supreme compliment and in addition to our Table d’hote lunch menus and A La Carte dinner menus we are pleased to offer the following. We are continuing to offer our very popular 3 course seasonal lunch or dinner menu for the excellent price of £26.00 per person at lunch and £36.00 per person at dinner. Using home grown and local produce where possible, our Head Chef Daniel Richardson has put together superb specially prepared. Available daily except Sunday lunch.

The third in our series of Hartwell first floor room bedrooms named after the French court who live here in exile, this is the Duchess d’Angouleme room. Situated on the first floor with superb south facing views this room was occupied by the Duchess d’Angouleme, niece of Louise XVIII and surviving child of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. The Revolution much affected her and made her both pious and of a mournful disposition; she always looked, in fact, as if she had recently been weeping. The Duchesse had a long life, and it is worth recording that, surviving as she did until the 1850’s the daughter of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette lived long enough to travel by train! Her room really does have a good atmosphere today.

Special B&B Rates of £400.00 per night if you book before 1st December 2015(not available Bank Holidays). Win a night in the Duchesse d’Angouleme’s bedroom plus dinner and breakfast for two – to be entered in this free draw just send your name via email quoting “Duchesse d,Angouleme Competition” to [email protected]. Closing date 30th November 2015. Prize to be taken by 30th March 2016 excluding Bank Holidays
