It carries a message of trust, that even in the most difficult times, God is there. He is the ultimate protection against the worst that the world can throw at us. It is my prayer that those whom we remember this Memorial Day, those who gave their “last full measure of devotion” knew in their hearts that the Lord would never leave them, nor forsake them. May they rest in peace. The Chancel Choir will continue in worship through June, and then take a much deserved short break in July. Our first rehearsal of the 2016-2017 season will be on Wednesday evening, August 3, at 7 p.m., in the Sanctuary. Perhaps you ‘used’ to sing in the choir? Maybe you’ve always wanted to do so, but haven’t taken the plunge yet? Please consider this your personal invitation. Please call me at the church, ext. 120, or e-mail me at [email protected] for any questions you have about where you can find a place to make music in God’s service. Ministry Updates

Dear Porterfield Friends,

As most United Methodists know, ministers in the South Georgia Annual Conference who move do so in June. What you may not know is that we have several people who will be leaving Porterfield this June to serve their own churches. Alex Tracy has been on an educational sabbatical, but will be moving Tybee Island to serve Trinity Chapel UMC. Chuck Knight has felt called into ministry for quite some time, and has made the decision to follow that call. He will soon complete a “License to Preach” school and will be appointed to the Damascus/Shingler Charge. Our District Superintendent has also asked Billy Bennett to serve a church as a Lay Speaker, and he has agreed to do so. He will be serving Rebecca UMC. In addition, Wanda Mitchell is only one course away from completing her studies at Asbury Theological Seminary and earning a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling! I know that all of you join me in joyfully congratulating and praying for all of these fellow church members as they begin new ministries. To celebrate God’s call on their lives, I have asked all of them to assist in serving Holy Communion in one of our worship services on June 5. Unfortunately, Wanda will be at Asbury taking that last class, but I will ask her again! I also wanted to make you aware that our Communion offering that day will go toward our District Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic, which you can read about here: www.southwestdistrictumc.org/districtmissiontrip.

I’ll see you in your places on Sunday!

Blessings...Leigh Ann
