new lodge, moving to year round camp, what that would take, etc. will

be on the docket. Teens to adults—bring your ideas for the future of

Lutherhaven. PJ is planning to attend, and hopes you will too! There will

be a light lunch and snacks served. RSVP to: [email protected]

Where Would YOU Go?

Living Stones Prison Ministry is excited to announce their 2018

raffle for a chance to win a $5,000 Costco travel voucher to be

used by the winner to plan a dream trip to anywhere Costco

arranges travel! Tickets are on sale now (see Kathleen Johnson

following Sunday services in the narthex) through May 31st for

$10 each or 6 for $50. All proceeds will support and benefit

Living Stones Prison Congregation. The winner will be chosen

on June 20th by Bishop Rick Jaech in the SWWA Synod office.

DOES THIS HAVE YOUR NAME ON IT?

Do you serve in your congregation because you “just know” it’s what you are called to do?

Have you wondered if there is a more formal way of using your gifts in your role as a lay

leader? Have you been told you have a gift as a Christian educator, listener, lay preacher or

an encourager like Barnabas?

Our Southwestern Washington Synod is starting an innovative program called PSALM to

strengthen people like you in lay ministry and we are looking for our first official

participants! Interested? The Program for Strengthening Active Lay Ministry (cleverly

abbreviated as PSALM) is a structured educational program meant to both hone your gifts

and deepen your faith to better serve your congregation. Through formal study, mentoring

and retreats you will receive a solid background in Biblical Studies, Lutheran Confessions,

Church History, and Practical Theology.

Still have your name on it? Jesus called his first disciples by name. He continues to call each

of us by name and we, as Lutherans, value our common calling to share the Gospel of Jesus

in all we do. To be admitted into the PSALM will require mutual discerning between you,

your pastor, and church council. Check out the information online at www.lutheranssw.org.

Submission deadline for your application and endorsements is July 1, 2018 sent to the Synod

at [email protected] to be considered for our initial class which begins with a retreat

October 19, 2018. Questions? Contact us at 253-535-8300 or [email protected]. Blessings

on your discernment, Pastor Kim Latterell, Synod Bishop’s Associate

A SPECIAL THANK YOU—to Don and Sherry Dungjen, and Randy

Randolph for all the cooking at Lutherhaven’s Spring Clean-up event last

Saturday. Moreover, thank you to the over 20 people from SLC who

worked along with our Cub Scouts too. Great showing by SLC and much

work was done to get our camp ready for summer ministry. We also want

to extend a special thanks to Ace Edwards who hand crafted new signs for

all the cabins and locations at the camp. Thanks be to God for our wonderful camp and for

a great event last Saturday!

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held this year

on May 3, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress,

and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. This year's theme is Pray for America - UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3 which

challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America, “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." Silverdale Lutheran will host this day with two types of events. The first is walk-in prayer from 6am to 5pm, where

our community can stop by and pray in our sanctuary either alone or with our volunteer staff. Then, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, we will hold a prayer service with a flag ceremony,

music by “The Independents” and prayer for our nation. Please invite your friends and join the rest of the nation in prayer at SLC. Volunteer opportunities are available, please sign the ministry card or call Kim Grasmick at 253.709.3012 to help.

Attention 11am Families! - Altar Care Helpers Needed!

We are looking for 4 families, or couples who could help for 1 month each. We are in need of volunteers for May, June, July & October. Have a favorite friend that you love to chat with after services? Why not combine that fellowship time with service! The whole process takes only about 15 minutes to complete following 2nd service. We have had 4 busy families already step up and support the altar care team and have enjoyed the experience. Small children can help carry the bread to sacristy, older kids can carry the chalices and help dry while parents help put items away. Now if you are thinking, “I would like to help, but we are going to miss a Sunday because we are out of town…” please know that is understandable and you should still sign-up as we can simply arrange for a substitute for you. Please mark your ministry card today with you interest!

DIAPER DERBY DRIVE FOR

EASTSIDE BABY CORNER-WEST SOUND

SLC Preschool and SLC Health Ministry are joining efforts

again for a diaper drive for Eastside Baby Corner-West

Sound (EBC-WS). EBC-WS is a local charitable organization

that provides material support to vulnerable families of children in Kitsap County from

birth to school age.

Why a diaper drive? 1) Programs such as WIC and other assistance do not provide

diapers, 2) Infants often go through as many as 240 diapers per month, and

3) Frequent diaper changes are needed to prevent skin and urinary tract infections.

So, the next time you are at the grocery store, Target, Wal-Mart or Costco, pick up a

pack of DISPOSABLE diapers in any size. If you have an opened bag or box of diapers or

pull-ups that your child or grandchild has outgrown, you can also donate those. EBC-WS

also accepts gently used children’s books, toys, and clothing up to size 7 and we would

be happy to deliver those to EBC-WS for you! Please leave donations in the preschool

office or the parish nurse office. We’ll be collecting through May 13th. Last year we

collected over 2,100 diapers. Let’s beat that this year! Thank you for your generosity.

-Nancy Williams, SLC Preschool director and Lisa Ottenbacher, SLC Parish Nurse
