By: Olivia Little
EMPLOYERS CAN GO ON FACEBOOK TOO.
Just by typing up your name, employers can find and look at your social networking sites. Be careful what you post.
"The internet is the first, second and third stop for employers today when considering you for a job," said Michael Fertik.
Stop and think before you post.
THE FACTS “70 percent of company recruiters said
they'd rejected applicants based on information they found online.”
“Only 15 percent of job applicants said they thought information found online would impact their ability to get a job.”
“4 out of 10 employers in Microsoft's survey said critical comments about previous employers factored into their decision.”
DON’T POST THIS ONLINE.. Pictures with alcohol Bad Grammar Gossip Comments about previous employers
AVOID CONFUSION
If you have a common name, try to make your profile a little different.
If an employer sees your name with an inappropriate profile, even if it isn’t yours, they will pass you on without a second thought.
Make sure your online profile describes how you want to be seen in real life.
PRIVACY POLICIES
Change your privacy settings so only friends can see your page.
Check often for any changes in privacy settings.
Enter your name in Google to see if anything comes up.
IF THERE ARE BAD THINGS ABOUT YOU ONLINE…
Create a website which shows positive things about yourself.
Request removal at the Internet Archive.
Hire a service to clean up your online reputation.
IN CONCLUSION, ALWAYS REMEMBER…
Never say anything online that you wouldn’t want a future boss to see.
Keep some things privateLastly, think before you post.
