About Annual AwardsABCI`s Annual Awards Nite is the most prestigious function in the country in the Business Communicators fraternity. There are 34 categories comprising Print & Electronic Media in which Gold, Silver & Bronze Awards are given. Now on 11th November 2010, ABCI will celebrates its 50th Annual Awards Nite which will be held at Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai.

About ABCI

The Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI) was formed in 1956 with an aim to promote excellence in Business Communicators. ABCI, as it is famously known, has its utility value. The main thrust is of course, on the Print Media as on date. However, with the growing influence of electronic media, the day is not too far when electronic media will get an equal importance in Business Communications. ABCI is the first organization in India to have successfully launched the concept of Accreditation Programme in India for Business Communicators and Public Relations fraternity.

more then 550 entries in 34 categories must have

given our eminent judges a hard time. And they did a

marvelous job in the time allotted to them.

Chief Guest Speech

It is for the first time, that I am meeting a galaxy of business communicators and public relations professionals, representing public and private sector organizations in such large numbers. Public relations and communication professionals are the image makers, of organisations,

governments and even nations, and their importance in today’s global economy can not be overstated.

I am very glad to see India’s most beloved Cartoonist Shri R. K. Laxman in our midst, today. For more than five

decades, Laxman has articulated the hopes and aspirations of the common man through his cartoons. I would

say, he is the voice of the common man in the corridors of power. Through his

silent work, he has demonstrated to the world, that effective communication is possible even without uttering, a single world! I congratulate Shri Laxman for being

conferred with the Life Time Achievement Award. Veteran

journalist Shri M. V. Kamath is truly the conscience-keeper of journalism. To him, journalism is a means to voice the concerns of the people and to seek their redress. I congratulate Shri Kamath for the well-deserved recognition from ABCI. I also congratulate Minister Shri Rajendra Darda and all the other distinguished award winners from various categories who are being honoured today.

As is commonly understood, Business Communication is used to promote a product, service, or organization. But more than that it is used to establish and maintain contacts with shareholders, employees, stakeholders and other wider audiences. Business Communication creates, goodwill for the organisation which helps it prosper, progress and achieve higher goals. Today the world has realized the significance of effective communication. Not just business houses and Corporates, but governments and non-governmental organizations have also acknowledged the importance of communication and public relations in today’s world.

It is imperative, that communication professionals are innovative and truthful. The Right to Information Act passed by the Parliament has underscored the need for bringing transparency, honesty and truthfulness in our communications with the people and other stakeholders. As India takes its rightful place as an emerging Superpower, the role of communication and public relations professionals is going to assume greater significance. Corporate and businesses will be crossing the geographical boundaries and work cultures. Foreign investors will be coming to India in large numbers. Communication professionals will have to adapt themselves to these changes.

The Association deserves our compliments for establishing the tradition of recognising excellence in creative business communications by instituting the ABCI awards in different categories. I congratulate all the award-winners and wish the Association success.

Dear Members,

The 49th Annual Awards Nite was a Grand Rehearsal of the 50th Annual Awards Nite. I don’t think any of the Professional Bodies in India have ever organized as many as 50 Annual Awards

Nites in the last 50years. ABCI is soon going to set a milestone. It will be a benchmarking exercise for all professional bodies in India and

am proud that ABCI will be the barometer.

His Excellency the Governor of Maharashtra Shri. K. Sankaranarayanan gracing the 49th Annual

Awards function along with Dr. Subir Gokarn, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of

India took the function at a greater height than ever before.

The Awards Nite was unique in many ways. Mr. Rajendra Darda, Hon’ble Industries Minister,

Government of Maharashtra, Mr. Manoj Shrivastava, IAS,

Commissioner Public Relations, Government of Madhya Pradesh were felicitated on one stage. It was a rare combination of having a Minister and Bureaucrat getting felicitated on the same stage. Mr. H.C. Kalia, Executive Director, Union Bank, Mr. Senthil Chengalavarayan, President & Editorial Director, CNBC TV 18, Mr. P. R. Joshi, President Corporate HR & Communications, Zydus Cadila, Ahmedabad, Mr. Arvind Agrawal, CEO, Atherstone Investor Communications Limited, who were the Elite Awardees, truly represented all geographies of India. ABCI thus, truly a National level Association.

But the Star attraction of the Awards Nite was felicitation of Mr. M. V. Kamath, Former Chairman, Prasar Bharati and a Journalist of high repute and India’s World renowned Cartoonist Mr. R. K. Laxman with the Life Time Achievement Award. Getting two legendary personalities on ABCI platform taken the entire Awards Nite on a much greater height.

We are now geared up for the 50th Annual Awards Nite and plans are getting finalized by the time you receive the copy of the Round Up. We shall put it on ABCI website which is viewed globally since last two years. We request all of you to help us in making this milestone event a memorable for the next 50years when ABCI will be the First Professional Body to celebrate 100th Annual Awards Nite.

As I was away in my village, I could not interact with you. My hearty congratulations for your dynamic leadership in having successfully conducted the ABCI Annual Awards Night.. in fact the event is not only memorable but also will remain green in my mind throughout life. The presence of H.E the Governor of Maharashtra on the one side and internationally renowned two celebrities M.V.Kamat and R K Laxman on the other has added grace to the function.
