What we will learn today

• We will learn about something that can help save our lives if we ever have a fire in our house

Do you have one of these on the ceiling in your house?

Smoke alarms hang on your ceiling or high on your walls and can smell smoke in your house before you can see it or smell it yourself

Do you have a smoke alarm in your home?

Do you have more than one smoke alarm in your home?

Where is your smoke alarm located?

Do you know what your smoke alarm sounds like?

Does it bark like a dog?Does it quack like a duck?Does it moo like a cow?

Do you know what to do ifyou hear your smoke

alarm sound?

GET OUT as quickly and safely as you can and once you are

outside, STAY OUT!

Every family should have a home escape plan in case of a fire

Everyone in your family should practice the plan together to know exactly what to do and where to meet

• If your smoke alarm sounds, get out of your house immediately

• If there is smoke, crawl low under the smoke until you are outside– Fire causes smoke that is very dirty

and it makes it hard to breathe– Smoke rises to the ceiling

then fills the room from the top to the bottom

– Stay low where the cleaner air is

• Have a meeting place outside so you can find your mom and dad and sisters and brothers.

• Your meeting place can be:

• Once you are outside, DO NOT go back inside for anything

– not a pet

– not a favorite toy

– not even a family member. If you practiced your plan together, they will know what to do and how to get out safely

– Know how to get out– Know where to meet– Never hide under a bed or in a closet– Never stop to pick something up– Never go back inside for anything

Remember - GET OUT AND STAY OUT!
