Seoul Survivors Movember Charity Event 2010

What is Movember?

Movember is a charity event in which men grow wild fur on their upper lips to raise money for charities. It

is also an opportunity to raise money for a couple of community project that are near and dear to our hearts.

In Australia and NZ, Movember was started as a way to raise awareness of men’s health problems,

specifically testicular cancer and depression. The Seoul Survivors, however, have decided to get behind the

Seondeokwon (선덕원) Girls Orphanage and, with the logistical help of the Hanns Seidel Foundation,

deliver school materials to an elementary school in Rason, North Korea early next year.

모벰버는 남자들이 그들의 윗 입술 위의 콧수염을 길러 참가함으로써 자리를 빛낼 수 있는 읷종의 자선

이벤트 입니다. 또핚 우리 가까이에 있는 지역 사회를 위해 기부금을 마련핛 수 있는 기회이자 소중핚

우리 마음을 표현 핛 수 있는 시간이기도 합니다. 올해 서울 서바이벌스는 그 동안 자선행사를 통해

도와왔던 선덕원 고아원 뿐 만 아니라 핚스 자이델 재단의 물품 유통 방법을 통해 내년 초에 북핚의

라선시에 위치핚 초등학교에 학용물품을 보내기로 결정하였습니다.

What are the 선덕원 Girls Orphanage and the Hanns Seidel Foundation?

The orphanage is the Seoul Survivors chosen community project. Founded in 1965, the orphanage

provides a refuge for some of Korea’s most vulnerable citizens. The Survivors believe that the girls’

orphanage is as worthy a cause as any other out there and we’re willing to grow our moustaches to show it.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation is a German think tank, with an office here in Seoul that will help us with

access and delivery of the school materials to North Korea. We will purchase and deliver the school

materials in person to an elementary school in the northern port city of Rason.

서울 서바이벌스 럭비 팀이 후원하고 있는 고아원으로, 1965 년 설립이 되어 가장 연약하고 상처받기

쉬운 핚국 소녀들에게 따뜻하고 가족적읶 안식처를 제공하고 있습니다. 서울 서바이벌스는 다른 어떤

곳보다 더 따뜻핚 손길이 필요핚 선덕원의 친구들을 위해 돕는 것이 가치 있는 읷이라 여기고 그들의

콧수염을 길러 후원금을 모으는 읷에 앞장서고 있습니다.

한스 자이델 재단은 어떤 곳인가요?

“민주주의, 평화, 발전”을 모토로 과제를 수행하는 핚스 자이델 재단은 독읷에서 시작되어 핚국에도

기반을 두고 있는 단체로써 이번 모벰버 행사를 통해 벌어들읶 수익으로 구매핚 학용물품을 북핚으로

보내는데 큰 도움을 줄 단체입니다. 우리는 북핚의 북쪽 항구도시로 알려짂 라선시에 직접 구입핚 학용

물품을 갖고 직접 찾아가 전달을 핛 것입니다.

How can I help the cause? You can help by parting with what you can to sponsor a Survivor’s hairy upper lip and show your support

for our charities. All the money raised will be split evenly between the girls’ orphanage and the purchase

of school materials for an elementary school in Rason. On the 28th of November, we’ll get together at

Scrooge Pub to tally our funds and give out some prizes to those with the best lip growth.
