    General Training- for workexperience or immigrationpurposes. The GeneralTraining Version is intended

    for those planning toundertake non-academictraining or to gain workexperience, or forimmigration purposes. Thetasks in the General Training

    test are normally aboutworkplace, general life orsocial situations. The IELTSTest takes 2 hours and 45

    minutes and is divided intothe following sections

    Listening- 4 sections (40questions) - 30 minutes + 10

    Answer Transfer. The modulecomprises four sections of

    increasing difficulty. It takes 40minutes: 30 - for testing, plus 10for transferring the answers to ananswer sheet. Each section, whichcan be either a monologue ordialogue, begins with a shortintroduction telling thecandidates about the situationand the speakers. Then they havesome time to look through thequestions. The first three sectionshave a break in the middleallowing candidates to look at the

    remaining questions. Each sectionis heard only once. At the end ofthis section students are given 10minutes to transfer their answersto an answer sheet.

    Writing- 2 tasks (of atleast 150 and 250 words) -60 minutes In the

    Academic module, thereare two tasks: in Task 1candidates describe adiagram, graph, process orchart, and in Task 2 they

    respond to an argument.In the General Trainingmodule, there are also twotasks: in Task 1 candidateswrite a letter or explain asituation, and in Task 2they write an essay.

    Speaking- 3 Parts - Between 10 and

    14 minute The speaking test

    contains three sections. The first

    section takes the form of aninterview during which candidates

    may be asked about their hobbies,

    interests, reasons for taking IELTS

    exam as well as other general topics

    such as clothing, free time,computers and the internet or

    family. In the second section

    candidates are given a topic booklet

    and then have one minute to

    prepare after which they must speak

    about the given topic. The third

    section involves a discussion

    between the examiner and the

    candidate, generally on questions

    relating to the theme which they

    have already spoken about in part 2.

    Reading- 3 sections (40 questions)

    - 60 minutes. In the academic

    modulethe reading testcomprises

    three sections, with 3 texts normally

    followed by 13 or 14 questions for atotal of 40 questions overall. The

    General test also has 3 sections.

    However the texts are shorter, so

    there can be up to 5 texts to read. In

    the section Reading of the academic

    version of IELTS exam participants

    need to read three texts and answer

    40 questions (13-14 questions for

    each paragraph). In the general

    variant of the exam texts are simpler

    and shorter than in academic one.To do all the tasks of the Reading

    section you have 60 minutes.
