Balloons don’t float after I inflate them

• Make sure you are using ULTRA HI-FLOAT

• Pre-stretch balloons with air so you can inflate to a larger size

• Add a little less HI-FLOAT

• Balloons will become more buoyant as HI-FLOAT dries inside the balloon

Pre-treating Balloons with HI-FLOAT

• Save time on the day of a job

• Treat balloons with ULTRA HI-FLOAT up to one week before inflating

DOUBLE STUFFED BALLOONS

• Treat the inside of the 16-inch clear balloon with ULTRA HI-FLOAT. Add 2 strokes with the grey restriction clip on the pump dispenser.

• Inflate the 16-inch balloon to 12-inches with helium and seal with a plastic clip or disc. Do not fully inflate the 16-inch balloon at this stage.

• Allow the balloon to dry for at least twenty-four hours.

• Remove the clip, only letting a little helium escape.

• Insert the un-inflated smaller 5-inch balloons or the 11-inch balloon inside the 16-inch.

• Inflate the smaller balloon with Helium and hand tie.

• Fully inflate and hand-tie the 16-inch balloon.

• Note: the ULTRA HI-FLOAT should be completely dry inside the 16-inch balloon before inserting smaller balloons.

GLITTER ON THE INSIDE OF BALLOON• Add ULTRA HI-FLOAT to 16-inch clear balloon using the grey pump

restriction clip.

• Rub the outside of the balloon in the usual manner to spread thecoating over the inside surface.

• Blow a puff of air into the balloon so the sides of te balloon are not touching.

• Add about one-third of a cup of chopped foil or other soft confetti into the balloon through a canning funnel. You can make this confetti by cutting up some old foil balloons which have popped, or you may buy it already chopped from several distributors.

• Inflate the balloon with helium to about the size of a grapefruit.

• Shake the balloon vigorously to spread the confetti uniformly around inside.

• Inflate the balloon the rest of the way with Helium and tie it with rainbow curling ribbon.

• Attach several of these balloons to a bottle of jellybeans for areally colorful arrangement.

• This same technique can be used to put sparkling glitter inside the balloon.

• TIP: The key to getting the confetti uniformly spread over the inside of the balloon without forming "clumps" is to avoid rubbing the balloon after the confetti is added. Instead, inflate the balloon slightly and shake it.

• NOTE: It is always a good idea when working with confetti to wear protective eye wear.

GLITTER ON THE OUTSIDE OF BALLOON

• Pour HI-FLOAT into a cup or glass.

• Place the balloon to be coated on a pencil as shown below and dip it into a glass of pure HI-FLOAT.

• Withdraw the balloon and let it drain a couple of minutes.

• Inflate the balloon Helium or air and tie.

• As you inflate the balloon it will stop dripping. The outside coating of HI-FLOAT will remain wet and sticky for about twenty minutes. You can sprinkle confetti or glitter on the outside of the balloon during this time. Be careful not to use too much or the balloon will get heavy and will not float.

• Since the balloon is still wet you will need to be careful to tie it without touching the sides and you will want to keep it from touching other balloons for about a half an hour.

• WARNING: Air-filled balloons having an external coating of HI-FLOAT must be kept in an air-conditioned location in hot weather. Exposure to heat and/or high humidity can cause the balloon to burst or deflate prematurely.

Easter Egg Food Coloring Balloons with

HI-FLOAT

• Use the orange clip on the pump to add ULTRA HI-FLOAT to the inside of 11-inch white latex balloons.

• Add two or three drops of food coloring to the balloon. At first add just one color to each balloon. Try blue, yellow, or red food coloring.

• Rub the outside of the balloon to mix the food coloring and HI-FLOAT and to spread it around.

• Inflate the balloon with air or helium in the usual manner.

• If you don't like the color pattern, deflate the balloon, rub it some more, and then re-inflate it to get a different pattern. No two are alike!

• For a more elegant look use pearlized white balloons instead of plain white.

• You will be surprised at the beauty of these custom colored balloons. By blending you can make any color you want. The colors will darken slightly on drying. If “runs” form use slightly less HI-FLOAT. For variation, use clear balloons instead of white ones and add a little glitter for added sparkle. Or, use with pastel colored balloons to achieve many beautiful colors.

HI-FLOAT IN PEARLIZED AND METALLIC BALLOONS

Method 1: Pre-treating Balloons with ULTRA HI-FLOAT

• Treat balloons with the correct amount of ULTRA HI-FLOAT.

• Gently rub the balloon to spread the ULTRA HI-FLOAT.

• Gather treated balloons in groups of 10 and band the necks of the balloons together with ribbon or a rubber band. This will keep the HI-FLOAT from drying out.

• Leave the balloons at room temperature on a counter top in banded groups of 10 for up to one week.

• Before inflating the balloons, gently rub the balloons to re-spread the ULTRA HI-FLOAT inside the balloon.

• Inflate the balloons with Helium and hand tie.

Pearlized and metallic balloons float about a third less time.

Does altitude affect floating time?

• Yes, balloons float for less time at higher altitudes (this is true for balloons treated with HI-FLOAT and for untreated balloons)

• Use ULTRA HI-FLOAT not Super at high altitudes

• Decreased float time due to lower air pressure

• May need to add less than recommended amount of ULTRA so that balloons will float after they are first inflated

• Add as much ULTRA as possible for maximum float time

• Need to experiment with amount of ULTRA that can be added at your altitude and pressure

• If ULTRA HI-FLOAT treated balloons float initially, they should float for several days

Does HI-FLOAT work with foil balloons?

• NO

• Foil balloons are not buoyant enough and will not float when treated with HI-FLOAT

• For a very long floating time, try a 16 inch latex balloon treated with ULTRA HI-FLOAT

When a balloon treated with ULTRA HI-FLOAT popped, a white powder came out of the balloon. What is this?

• ULTRA HI-FLOAT can form a very crystalline film inside the balloon when outdoor weather conditions are very dry and cold

• Crystalline ULTRA HI-FLOAT film can fall apart to form a powder when a balloon is popped

• Only occurs with ULTRA HI-FLOAT in winter

• Does not occur when temperatures are above approximately 40 degrees F (5 C)

• Super HI-FLOAT does not form this powder when balloons are popped

Why is my ULTRA HI-FLOAT so thick that I can’t pump it out of bottle?

• Normally HI-FLOAT has the consistency of honey. However, with excessive age it can begin to gel and get very thick and lumpy.

• ULTRA HI-FLOAT may begin to gel if it has been frozen.

• If your product becomes too thick to pump, it can be re-dissolved in one of the following ways:

• (1) Remove the cap and heat in a microwave until hot but not boiling. Stir after removing from microwave, or

• (2) Pour HI-FLOAT into a double boiler and heat on a stove, or

• (3) Remove the pump or cap and place in a pan of water as shown below. Boil the water in the pan for about two hours. This will heat liquid sufficiently to dissolve any gel.

Why is my ULTRA HI-FLOAT so thick that I can’t pump it out of bottle?

WARNING! IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTES:

• Place a one-inch layer of gravel or glass marbles in the bottom of the pan as shown in figure nine to keep the plastic bottle from touching the pan during heating.

• Do not allow the water in the pan to boil dry since this will melt the plastic bottle.

• Do not heat the bottle without first removing the pump or bottle cap since this could build up pressure and rupture the bottle resulting in burns or serious injury. Heat only an open bottle.

• Do not heat HI-FLOAT directly with gas or electrical heat since this will scorch the HI-FLOAT and ruin it. The HI-FLOAT must be heated by placing the bottle in a pan of heated water as shown in Figure 9 or use a double boiler.

• Allow the HI-FLOAT to cool to room temperature before handling to avoid the possibility of burns or injury.

Should I rotate the nozzle on my pump dispenser up when I am not using it?

• NO – Leave the nozzle pointing down toward the ground

• Place the red cap on the end of the nozzle to prevent HI-FLOAT from drying out and clogging the pump

• Rotating the nozzle up will break the air tight seal and cause HI-FLOAT to drip out of the nozzle when it is rotated back down for use

• HI-FLOAT should not drip out of the pump when the nozzle is pointed down

• If your pump drips a small amount of HI-FLOAT, make sure that the nozzle is pushed securely into the head of the pump dispenser

Science Behind HI-FLOAT and Preventing Helium Escape From

Latex Balloons

• HI-FLOAT is a solution of a plastic material dissolved in water

• After a HI-FLOAT treated balloon is first inflated, the HI-FLOAT inside the balloon is wet and DOES NOT prevent helium from escaping

• During the next couple of hours the water in the HI-FLOAT coating evaporates and escapes from the balloon through pores in the latex

• This leaves a dry coating of HI-FLOAT inside the balloon

• This dry HI-FLOAT coating DOES A GREAT JOB of preventing helium from escaping from the balloon

• Very important to keep balloons in a climate controlled location after they are first inflated so the HI-FLOAT can dry and begin to prevent helium from escaping

• Ideal temperatures around 72 F (22 C)

• Even after a HI-FLOAT treated balloon has dried, water vapor in the air can re-enter the balloon through the latex pores and make the HI-FLOAT coating wet again
