What is Eternal Life?• How do you describe eternity using the

concept of time and apply it to that which has no beginning or ending?

• Further, how do you describe a being as God, the Creator who cannot be fully measured nor fully understood?

To Answer This Question: What is Eternal Life…

• How can a finite being answer this magnificent question?

• We are limited to life on a small planet, a speck within our solar system…

• A speck within our own (Milky Way) galaxy…• A speck among billions of other galaxies within

the heavens we call the universe!

God Has Given Us The Answer!• He revealed Himself, which gives us a

taste in how we can answer this question. 1 Cor. 2:6-13

• Ultimately, We are given a clear an explicit answer by none other than the Lord of glory. Heb. 1:1-3

Jesus prayed: “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son, that the Son may glorify

You, even as you gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him,

He may give eternal life…”

For Centuries People Have Sought Eternal Life

• A young ruler sought Jesus for the answer. “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”

• Jesus said: “His (God’s) commandment is eternal life.” Jn. 12:50

• Yet, the next words in Jesus’ prayer brings to light exactly what “eternal life” is.

“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and

Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3)

Knowing God, and Jesus Christ

• Jesus – the express character/nature of God (Heb. 1:3) – enjoyed eternal fellowship with Him. Phil. 2:6

• To know Jesus is to know God. Jn. 6:45-47• To know them is eternal life. 1 Jn. 2:3-6

obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
