What is CAD ?
• Computer-aided design (CAD), also known as computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), is the use of computer technology for the process of design and design-documentation.
• CAD may be used to design curves and figures in two-dimensional (2D) space; or curves, surfaces, and solids in three-dimensional (3D) objects

• First introduction of CAD by american company „AUTODESK” – in the beggining of 80’s – AutoCAD
• Standard CAD extension - *dwg
• During 20 years, number of users reached several millions
• At the end of 90’s – first Autodesk 3D program – „Mechanical Desktop” and „Inventor”

Autodesk inventor
• Autodesk Inventor, developed by U.S.-based software company Autodesk, is a 3D mechanical solid modeling design software for creating 3D digital prototypes used in the design, visualization and simulation of products. Autodesk Inventor competes directly with SolidWorks and SolidEdge and less directly with Pro/ENGINEER, CATIA, and NX (Unigraphics).

Autodesk - AutoCAD
• AutoCAD is a CAD software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting. It was developed and sold by Autodesk, Inc. First released in December 1982, AutoCAD was one of the first CAD programs to run on personal computers, notably the IBM PC.
• Early releases of AutoCAD used primitive entities — lines, polylines, circles, arcs, and text — to construct more complex objects. Since the mid-1990s, AutoCAD has supported custom objects through its C++ Application Programming Interface (API). Modern AutoCAD includes a full set of basic solid modeling and 3D tools. With the release of AutoCAD 2007 came improved 3D modeling, which meant better navigation when working in 3D. Moreover, it became easier to edit 3D models. The mental ray engine was included in rendering, it was now possible to do quality renderings. AutoCAD 2010 introduced parametric functionality and mesh modeling.
