WHAT IS HAPPENING ON MAY 7TH 2015?

May 7th is an important day for the whole of England, it is the date of the general election. To vote you have to be on the

electoral roll. It is important to vote so your voice can be heard, there are lots political parties. Each political party has a different point of view. They have different opinions

on how to run the country .

WHY SHOULD YOU VOTE?

You should vote so you voice can be heard and you can have your say of what the government does to your community and country. This means adults can decide what happens in their everyday life. British citizens can chose their representative via an election.

WHAT IS REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY ?

BRITAIN IS A REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY. THIS IS WHERE CITIZENS WITHIN A COUNTRY ELECT REPRESENTATIVES TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR THEM. EVERY 5 YEARS IN BRITAIN THE PEOPLE HAVE THE CHANCE TO VOTE WHO THEY WISH THEIR REPRESENTATIVE WILL BE.

David Cameron is the current leader of the Conservatives and is the Prime Minister of England

Edward Milliband is the leader of the Labour party.

Nick Clegg is the leader of the Liberal Democrate party and was the deputy prime minister

WHY WAS THE MAGNA CARTA INTRODUCED AND WHO BY ?

The Magna Carta was signed in June 1215 between the barons of Medieval England and King John. ‘Magna Carta' is Latin and means Great Charter. The Magna Carta was one of the most important documents of Medieval England.

WHAT DID THE SUFFRAGETTES DO AND

WHEN ?The First World War provided the first opportunity for women to take on traditional male jobs so it isn't surprising that in 1918, women over 30 were given the same political rights as men. But this change was not just a result of war, women had been campaigning for decades to be given the right to vote.

Emily PankhurstEmily Pankhurst was a British political activist and leader of the British suffragette movement who helped women win the right to vote.

WHAT HAS THE PARLIAMENT GOT TO DO WITH THE

ELECTIONS?Every MP who is chosen from their constituency goes to the House of Commons to make laws. Then the laws get sent to the House of Lords to be checked. When they have agreed and made the changes they send it back to the House of Commons so they can agree or disagree with the new laws.
