WHAT IS A REIMBURSABLE LUNCH?

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO ONLY SERVE A REIMBURSABLE

LUNCH?

The Oregon Department of Education will only reimburse the district for meals that meet

certain criteria.

These meals are called “reimbursable meals.”

WHAT FOOD GROUPS MUST BE OFFERED DAILY FOR A REIMBURSABLE LUNCH?

1. Meat/Meat Alternate : 1-2 ounce (Grades K-8) 2 ounce (Grades 9-

12) Meat alternate: non-meat items that contain protein example: yogurt, peanut butter, cheese

2. Grain: 1 serving = 1 slice of bread, ½ cup pasta or rice, 1 roll

3. Vegetables: ¾ cup (Grades K-8) 1 cup (Grades 9-12)

4. Fruit: ½ cup (Grades K-8) and 1 cup (Grades 9-12)

5. Milk: ½ pint (8 fluid ounces)

The correct portion size must be offered!
