What is a Music Video? Jack Halford
What is a Music Video A music video is a promotional text for a song/band/artist. It is a video (or short film) produced alongside a song which usually lasts the length of the track. A music video can be used to keep an artist alive and in contact with the audience and also provides an additional platform on which their music products can be consumed.
What Makes a Good Music Video? A good music video should: - Be memorable and/or unique – it should make you want to watch
it again - Engage the audiences emotions and make them feel something - Be visually interesting - Follow the narrative of the song (if applicable) - Promote the band or artist - Have high quality editing (which is usually to the beat of the
song)
Radioactive - Imagine Dragons What makes it a Good Music Video?
Radioactive is a good music video due to the following reasons: - It has an interesting narrative
accompanying the song which engages the audience. The narrative has no obvious relation to the song lyrics itself except from the fact it appears to be set within a post-apocalyptic world
- The video also has a unique, memorable feature which is the living muppet-esque creatures which are fighting within the betting area.
- The video also is good as it
promotes the band Imagine Dragons through cuts to the band in a cell playing and singing the song. As can be seen from the image on the right we also see them all together on multiple occasions
- Another feature of the video which makes it so good is the editing and CGI used. An example of the CGI is the muppet-esque creatures and the lasers which can be seen in the above image.
