What Do You Lack?

Mark 10:17-22: Jesus is teaching us to let go of the things that hinder us from serving Him.

What can hinder us? TV, movies, computer, cellphones, iPads and even character flaws.

What shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? It’s the most important question you’ll ever ask.

What is the motive? Confirmation for doing good, or truly believing there is something lacking.

What are you lacking? We can be blind to our own sins, or we’d fix what we know.

What Do You Lack?

Jesus looks directly at his heart (v. 21), knowing exactly what was hindering the rich young ruler.

How many of us would be willing to give up all of our possessions?

Jesus didn’t say this is what I want from you. He said this is what I want you to give up, then follow Me.

Mark 10:23-25: Hard for a rich man to enter heaven, but we all qualify as rich, don’t we?

But maybe materialism isn’t what’s hindering you?

What Do You Lack?

Maybe it’s something else that you’re lacking.Spend time with your family and brethren.Stop talking and do more listening (James

1:19).Ephesians 5:16: “Redeem the time.”I Corinthians 6:11: “And such were some of

you.”II Timothy 4:6-8: Fighting the good fight until

the end, like Paul.Philippians 3:12-14: Pressing toward the goal.

What Do You Lack?

Colossians 3:5-10: Let go of the things that are full of the flesh; put off the old man.

Fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5); true scriptural love (I Corinthians 13); and how to behave as a Christian (Romans 12).

Hebrews 12:1-2: Lay aside every weight.Misconception in the Lord’s church is that I’ve

done all these things, so I’ve earned heaven. The price is paid and has been earned, but not

by us. It’s been paid by our Savior, Jesus Christ!
