Project Overview• Furman recently announced plans to renovate the UC

beginning in the summer of 2012• Contractors and administrators are interested in

students’ input, but many students have been reluctant to voice their opinions, so we went directly to the source

Rationale• “An integral part of shaping the academic and

co-curricular experiences of Furman students will be a redesign of the University Center to make it more fully a part of student life.” - Because Furman Matters

• The UC is exactly that, the center of the University for students, so it is vital that students voice their opinions

Closing Thoughts• Students clearly have strong opinions about

the new UC, and we were able to prompt this 2-way flow of communication through interviews and the use of different types of social media

• Student opinions include:• More varied food options • Extended hours of operation• Larger facility for Burgiss Theatre and graduated

seating• Convenience store• Separate offices for student organizations• Revamped Gauntlet• More study spaces and comfortable seating
