WHAT CHANGE? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What Change is a community theatre project taking place during summer 2014, encouraging residents of Burnham & Highbridge to think about what change they can create to make their towns the best place to be. What Change forms half of Word/Play Phase 3, exploring small positive changes that can be made within a community. This diverse programme of workshops forms a main part of the What Change project. At just £2 each (or free), this is a chance for adults and young people to join in a variety of friendly workshops run by a great bunch of creative people. Several workshops have already happened in schools and community groups. Try something new this summer! TAKE ART - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Take Art is a pioneering arts charity, serving the towns, villages and rural communities of Somerset. DIGITISING YOUR DESIGN led by ANDREW BOLTONAndrew’s design workshop will support the Youth Council’s Dog Splat campaign. The young people will explore ideas for designing a digital stencil that uses simple words and images to a powerful effect. Andrew has been a professional artist for nearly 30 years, making work using large scale painting, drawing, photography and video in public places all over the world.Tues 22 July, 3:30–5:30pmBAY Centre, Cassis Close, Burnham TA8 1NN

WRITING FOR PERFORMANCE led by SHEILA HANNON Sheila will run two workshops on writing short pieces for solo performance. Come to the first one, find out all about it and have a go. Join us for the second session with ideas you want to develop. This workshop will show you how to use simple apps on your smartphone, tablet or computer to share words, images and videos on various platforms including Facebook, Twitter and the Word/Play website. Marcus is founder of FutrSocial, a Social Media Consultancy that helps people to understand and utilise social media and online content. Please bring your own phone, tablet or laptop. SPEAKING IN PUBLIC led by LEELA BUNCEWould you like to feel more confident speaking in front of an audience? In this workshop you’ll learn simple techniques from theatre, clown and laughter yoga that will leave you grinning from ear to ear and more relaxed with your public speaking. No experience necessary, you just need a willingness to give it a go. David’s workshops (below) follow on from these. Leela is a physical theatre performer and, as one the UK’s leading laughter yoga practitioners,

appears regularly on television and radio. SPEAKING IN PUBLIC led by DAVID REAKESThese two workshops will explore performance and acting skills in a fun, supportive and collaborative atmosphere. It is ideal for anyone wanting to gain confidence in any kind of public speaking situations while exploring their own creativity and imagination. David is an actor with over twenty years professional experience. He is a co-founder of the Glastonbury-based Tor Theatre who have successfully brought Acting Up workshops to communities across the county over the last three years. MAKING IT UP led by SELINA KEEDWELL Join Selina in a fun, interactive drama workshop for parents and their children. A chance to explore and create together through games, words, voice and song.
