When the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the sun we have summer. When the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away

from the sun we have winter.

• Direct rays and more hours of sunlight heat the surface of the Northern Hemisphere in June more than any other time summer

• Indirect rays in the Southern Hemisphere cause daylight to be shorter than darkness.

• Indirect rays and fewer hours of sunlight heat the surface of the Southern Hemisphere less than any other time of year winter

In December, it is the opposite!
