What can make you see things differently?

Purity of Heart• To define a pure and

impure heart• To explain how purity

of heart changes our perception of the world

• To evaluate how purity of heart brings freedom to love

Got Sin

Sin makes us “see” the world in a way that is twisted – wrongly. Sin has changed our hearts by making us want wrong things. This has changed us from being good, loving and true (PURE) to being deceitful, selfish, unloving and evil (IMPURE) .

This is because of Original Sin, when man rejected God – and gave sin and temptation the chance to get a hold over us. Our hearts are now more easily skewed towards deceit and evil. It is harder to be loving, good and true. We need God’s help to purify our hearts back towards what is good, loving and true.

1. Write out the 4 sins, and match them with how they make us see things in a wrong way

2. How has sin changed the way that we see things?

3. How did Original Sin cause this problem?

**Why is having a pure heart is important for a good relationship?

Lust

Greed

Envy

Pride makes me see others as just bodies, there for my pleasure

makes me want things just because others have

them.

makes me think others aren’t as good as me.

makes me want things I don’t need.

4 sins of an impure heart…(that make you see the world wrongly)

greed

envy

lust

pride

Sins are “insatiable”. The more you “feed” your sins, the hungrier they grow, until your sins end up controlling you.

Learning to control your lusts and desires is hard work. But God gives us the 7 gifts of His spirit to help us. They give

us a pure heart. The more you have a pure heart, the more you will feel the dignity of who you are – the image of

God.

Draw 3 squares/ circles, one inside the other. Leave 2cm of space between them.• Choose & write what a person with an

impure heart is like in the outer square.• Write what a person with a pure heart is

like in the inner square.• Write the “7 gifts of the Spirit” that help us

to have a pure heart in the middle square

1. Choose 2 “impure” things. Explain what you could change them to. Which gifts of the Spirit would you need to change them? Why?
