half of the members of the

Wharton Class of 2016 entered a

financial job function, with the

popularity of investment banking

roles declining to 21.6% from

26.8% in 2015. The percentage of

students entering trading also

declined to 2% from 4.1% in 2015.

A new job function, data analytics,

was added to the survey this year,

and 2.5% of students reported

accepting jobs in this area.

Insurance positions were in general

less popular, with the percentage of

students accepting actuarial

positons falling to 0.7% from 1.9%

in 2015. More students accepted

positions in marketing, sales, and

retail functions which increased to

10.1% from 7.5% in 2015.

More members of the

Class of 2016 opted to

continue their education

immediately after

graduation (5.8% as

opposed to 3.1% in

2015), reversing a

downward trend since

the end of the recession.

Fewer students entered

the investment banking

industry (27.6% as

opposed to 35.3% in

2015) and we continued

to see an increase in the

number students entering

the technology industry,

ranging from start-ups to

large corporations such

as Microsoft and Google.

Consulting remained

another strong choice

with over 20.7% of

students selecting it,

although this was down

from 22% in 2015.
