ear Mr. Kavanagh,
he following are our plans for moddjing the Press Exhaust System :
ENGINEEF2ING MODIFICATIONS TO P M S S EXHAUST
ne press exhaust modification will be done by oursekes and at the moment we have no .swings. It .will involve the following :
The installation of a suction hood over the press.
Thcinstallation of fans with a capacity of 142,000 m3 / hour ( which is the same as the current capacity.
The installation of a high efficiency cyclone which vve already have on site and which is currently not in use. Dust particles recovered by this cyclone will be returned to the process.
The installation of a statk with a height of 21m from ground level.
The stack diameter will be 1.58 m to achieve an efflux velocity of 20 111 sec:. Monitoring point will be provided as per your guidance notes receiwd on 29-05-96.

Please find attached a report on the effectiveness of a 2mm screen at removing fkgitive dust particles fiom our storm water.
EFFECTIVENESS OF A 2 mm SCREEN AT REMOVING FUGITIVE DUST PARTICLES.
A 2000 g sample of material was collected fiom our roadways and passed through a 2 mm screen in the laboratory .
39% of the sample passed through the screen.
Roadways are now cleaned regularly. However, small particles accumulate faster than the large particles.
The overall quantity of material present on roadways is gently reduced. +'

lO(2) (J) and (I) :
1). Discharge point 2 current@ discharges only surface run off water and cooling water should the old water cooled compressor be in operation. I have previously indicated to the Agency our intention to group discharge points 2 and 3 together. However, having examined this from an engineering point of view it is not possible as the height difference between the two points is too great. ( This maybe inspected by personnel from the Agency ).
The only industrial effluent which has been discharged in the past through discharge point 2 has been the chip squeezer effluent. This has not been discharged since 1992. If at some point in the future we wish to restart the chip squeezer we will do so only with the permission of the Agency.
All the gulleys through which water flows into the discharge point will be fitted with screens to remove wood particles.
a :
P.H. values for discharge point 1 are included in Table 15.1 attached.
2). and volumes of these tanks will be submitted to the Agency on 06-06-96.
Discharge points 1 and 3 are located after combinal senling / interceptor tanks. Shetches
Capacity of Tanks at discharge point 1 = Capacity of Tanks at discharge point 3 = Throughput of Tanks at discharge point 1 = 300 m3 / Day Throughput of Tanks at discharge point 3 = 250 m3 / Day
From the result obtained from one weekly effluent monitoring to date, it is dBicult to get a measure of the efficiency of the tanks as the COD and suspended solids of the inlets to the tar& and of the outlets from the tanks are erratic and in some occasions values are higher of the outleT- than of the inlet.
The setting tanks are visually inspected at least twice per week and are emptied at least once every two years. Water removed is aildwed to percolate through the landfill area. Scum and sludge in the past have been landfilled on site. In hture they will be disposed of as required by the Agency.

(a) From discussions with Entec, it is estimated that a high efficiency cyclone will remove most particles greater than 40 p. 80 YO of the emissions from the press are > 47p. Therefore , such a cyclone should remove most of the dust particles emitted. Assuming that 70% of the dust particles are removed, the air as discharged would contain the following :
mg/m3 =17 Kg/Hour = 0.44 Kg/Year = 4,000.
(b) In relation to the clarification on what emision rates in g / sec. were used in the modelling study, we have contacted Entec and are awating there response. This should be with the Agency on 10-06-96.

The locations of dust deposition sites are shown on the attached map.
We are currently working on the completion of the summary table for the material listed in 10 (a). This will be submitted to the Agency before 14-06-96.
We are currently in receipt of no permits for the transportation and disposal of wastes.
A) In relation to the elevated levels of BOD, Solids, Total Phosporous, Phospate and Oils Fats and Greases recorded from the River Graney, these samples were taken from the point where we take water from the Graney. Surrounding this intake point there is a lagoon area and the samples were taken from this area. This is an area of stagnation and could therefore have caused the elevated levels. This intake point is shown on the attached drawing.
