“It's too complex”

“EDA industry won't support it”

“Nice vision, but it will never work”

“Digital, maybe... analog, no way”

● No File Exchanges

● Native OA or Data Exchange can work for “point tools”

● Tightly integrated capabilities would require Native OA

– “Compatibility Layer” for IBM tools

Selecting OA as our data model

We looked at 15 other data models (internal, external, open source) before choosing OA.

Things that appealed to us about OA:

Free translators to and from OA (GDS, LEF/DEF, Verilog, etc.).

The relative ease of moving from CDBA to OA.

The ability to influence the direction of OA development.

Open standard (can work with universities and vendors).

Accessible source.

Rich documentation and training.

Conclusions

• OpenAccess has beaten the odds!

• It’s impact on industry is now becoming clear

• Collectively, OAC members are making history

• OpenAccess enables new ideas / innovation

• Broad market awareness is just now dawning

• We have barely scratched the surface of the full potential value of OpenAccess!
