Wickes Wetroom Deck

The Preformed 1 in 40mm gradient will

allow water to flow to the waste. It has

been specially designed to take the

guess work out of forming gradients.!

• Two part waste allowing installation from above thedeck.

• Horizontal ball joint that allows the gulley to align tothe aperture of the deck exactly.

• 50 to 40mm reducer to link up with standard wasteoutlets.

• Adjustable tile grate that allows for tile depths frombetween 6 and 26mm.

• Fleece clamping ring that secures the wetroomtanking kit.

Remove the Wickes Deck and cut along thelines with a circular saw to the depth of thefloor boards. Beware of any pipe work orelectric cables that may be concealed underthe floor.

1

Determine where your wetroom floor is to beinstalled and remove the original floorcovering to expose the floorboards. Lay theWickes Deck flat on the floorboards and markaround it with a pencil.

2

The Wickes deck should always be fittedperfectly level on all four sides. Check the topof the joist are level. Adjust if necessary. Theperformance of the deck is determined by thisaccuracy.

3

The floor boards can now be removed toaccommodate the Wickes Deck.

4

Timber Floor Installation

5

It is important to secure the Wickes deck onall four sides with noggins to limit the amountof movement in the floor. They will also act asfixing points later on in the installation.

To install the Wickes Deck correctly, theheight and location of the waste pipe andgulley need to align with the 160mm aperturein the Wickes Deck. Mark the location on thejoists.

6

Drill the noggin and push the waste pipethrough to align with the hole in the aperture.

7

Do not drill the floor joists as thiswill compromise the structure ofyour house.

!

8

Place the waste in position and if requiredattach the gulley making use of the 50mm to40mm reducer.

Do not secure the gulley with solvent weld atthis time.

First, make sure it is in the correct location.

9

Lay the deck back on the joists and ensurethe gulley and deck aperture align.

Remove the deck and store for later.

Page 4: Wet Room PDF

10

Coat the reducer with solvent cement glue tocreate a good seal and join to the waste pipe.

Repeat process to join the reducer to thegulley.

11

The Wickes Deck needs to be supportedbetween the joists to provide a solid platformand reduce movement in the floor. This isachieved by placing battens 18mm from thetop and between each of the joists inreadiness for a 18mm plywood base.

12

Cut and lay the plywood base ensuring a160mm hole in the central section of theplywood base to allow access for the gulley.

17

Remove the dip tube, fleece clamping ringand using the tool provided, unscrew the1 1/2" threaded waste fitting from the gulleyand keep in a safe place until they arerequired later in the installation .

18

Place the undrilled gulley into position.

Check that the centre of the gulley base is inthe centre of the gulley outlet.

Drill a 50mm hole in the plate with a hole sawto align with the gulley. This can be offsetfrom the centre if required.

13

The plywood base must be fixed securely tothe battens.

14

Ensure the area is now level.

It is imperative that the deck isperfectly level to ensure thepre-formed gradient on the WickesDeck works effectively.

!

15

Replace the Wickes Deck and ensure thetrap aligns with the gulley.

If the gulley is slightly off centre, gently adjustthe gulley to align making use of the ball jointon the horizontal outlet.

16

Check that the Wickes Deck is level and fixthe Wickes Deck in place with the screwsprovided, starting from the outer edges andworking in.

A final check should be made to see if theWickes Deck is level on all four sides.

Remember the deck will not perform properlyif this is not correct.

Page 5: Wet Room PDF

19

The Gulley now needs to be sealed to thegulley base.

Place the threaded waste fitting into thenewly drilled base plate and catch the threadon the gulley base.

20

Using the tool provided, tightening the gulleybase to the base plate.

Leave the tool in place to stop any debrisfalling into the gulley.

21

Drill pilot holes through the gulley base plateinto the deck.

23

The Wickes Deck is now sitting higher than your bathroom floorboards. Using a suitable substrate, overboard the remaining bathroom to the height of the Wickes Deck.

Ensure at minimum the overboard is flat, however, we recommend a small gradient is created towardsthe Wickes Deck. This will ensure that any water escaping from the Deck area will flow back towards thewaste.

Now you are ready to waterproof the room.

22

Secure the gulley base with the four screwsprovided.

The gradient has now been installed andshould be ready for the floor to be overboarded.

24

Measure the area to be waterproofed and cutthe matting to size using a utility knife.

We recommend that you use manageablesizes of waterproof fleece at any one time, donot use straight from the roll as this could bedifficult to manage.

25

Using Wickes PVA primer, coat anyabsorbent surfaces and allow to dry.

26

Using a 6mm square notched trowel, apply aflexible cement based tile adhesive to the firstsection of floor.

Ensure 100% even coverage of the tileadhesive and that the gradient of the Deck ismaintained. The notched trowel will assist inmaintaining the gradient.

Page 6: Wet Room PDF

27

Starting over the Wickes deck area, Lay the pre-cut fleece on the prepared floor and press down evenlyover the entire area with the smooth edge of the trowel.

It is important that the fleece is bonded over the entire area without bubbles and ripples.

Note: The fleece will appear darker when properly bonded.

Tip: When working in the area of the deck, it is important that you maintain the gradient ofthe deck when laying the fleece. If the gradient is removed the water will not flow towardsthe waste.

*

28

Once the Deck section has been fleeced, youmust now cut out a round hole for the gulley.Ensure the fleece is not cut past the innerring of the gulley to avoid leaking.

29

Apply a small amount of solvent cement to the inner face of the clamping ring and set into positionsecuring the fleece to the waste.

30

Lay the rest of the fleece avoiding overlap orgaps at the joints. Ensure the fleece joinstogether perfectly. The joining tape appliedlater will cover the join in the fleece.

32

Apply flexible tile adhesive along the edge of the wall and the fleece.

Fold the joining tape to and apply to the wall and floor create a watertight seal.

31

When joining two or more pieces of matting, apply flexible tile adhesive evenly across thejoint and apply joining tape over the seampressing firmly to ensure a complete bond tothe adhesive.

Page 7: Wet Room PDF

33

Apply a thin layer of tile adhesive on top ofthe joining tape in the corners of thebathroom and press the pre-formed cornersinto place ensuring they are fully bonded. This will offer a secure waterproof area.

34

Once the floor is fully tanked, you are readyto install under floor heating.

The Wickes Under Floor Warming MatSystem is easy to install and use but, as withany system, it is very important you do notdamage the waterproof fleece when laying.

Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

35

You are now ready to finalize your tiled gulleyheight .

Replace the dip tube into the gulley.

36

Place the height adjustment ring in thelocating position on the gulley base plate. The ring will then rotate anticlockwise on arise and fall cam to locate the desired height .

37

The lip of the stainless steel frame should sitflush with the tile to allow the maximum flowrate. Remember to allow for under floorheating and an extra layer of tile adhesive.Mark the height position on the cam thenremove the ring.

At this stage the grate will not line upwith the direction of the tile. This canbe altered once the cam has beenfully secured in position.

!

38

Apply a small amount of solvent cement ontothe cam faces of the ring and return to themarked position and allow solvent to dry.

Once the solvent is dry, the grate shouldmove independently of the ring to allow youto align the grate with your tiling pattern.

39

You are now ready to tile your wetroom.

IMPORTANT: Some tiles canbecome very slippery when wet,so make your choice with care.

!

For the less experienced tiller, usingsmaller tiles or mosaics will make iteasier to maintain the gradient of theDeck.

!

40

You now have a beautiful wet room that caneither be fitted with a screen, enclosure or leftas an open shower area.

When installing the Wickes DeflectorPanel, ensure the wetroom installationhas had 12 hours to set before drillingthe floor support to the tiles.

!

41

The Wickes deflector panel will require a4mm deep hole drilled in the tile, to securethe base plate, and as such, we recommendthe use of tiles no less than 6mm inthickness.

IMPORTANT: Never drill completelythrough the tile as this could damagethe fleece and compromise yourwetroom floor.
