Westwood High School Academies are sequenced program of study, as determined by RRISD
* Each Program of Study Pathway may result in an endorsement, starting with the Class of 2018, if an approved coherent sequence of coursework is completed. While students may complete more than one endorsement as part of their graduation plan, students are asked to prioritize interest areas. *ENDORSEMENT KEY: Business and Industry ∝ Public Service° STEM ∇ Arts & Humanities ◊

Academy endorsements are a natural part of
a student's graduation plan!
How to Earn Endorsement(s)
❖ Three or more courses for four or more
credits in an established program of study
➢ Includes upper level coursework (like a “major”)
➢ Focus on areas of personal interest to advance skills
➢ Careful planning allows for multiple endorsements
➢ All Texas Graduates to earn at least one endorsement
Endorsement BenefitsProvides Customization…
• High school 4-year graduation plans can be customized to students’ skills and interests, similar to college “majors”
• Fewer courses can be taken in one area, while more classes (of interest) can be taken in others
• Endorsements accommodate students with multiple interests - it is possible to earn more than one endorsement
• Students can pursue a structured and in-depth investigation of their area(s) of interest
Endorsement Benefits
Provides Credentials...
• Official documentation of a student’s dedication to a focus area
• The significance of a deliberate study of a focus area is now understood by in-state AND out-of-state colleges
• Multiple endorsements combined with performance acknowledgements (such as industry certifications) demonstrate excellence to college admission officials
What about EXPLORATION? Some courses satisfy BOTH graduation requirements AND also count towards an endorsement...such as….
