Westwood Country Club is a private member owned country club established in
1954. The Club is located in Vienna, VA, a suburb of Washington DC. The Club’s
850 member families enjoy a newly renovated, Gene Bates designed 18-hole
championship golf course, 10 tennis courts (6 of which are indoors), a fitness center,
children’s center and an Olympic size, heated swimming pool.
Total Club revenue exceeds $11 million, which includes $4 million in F & B revenue.
The Club is currently seeking a CFO.
Position Title: Chief Financial Officer
Reports To: General Manager
Supervises: Controller & HR Administrator
Purpose Position: Direct the financial operations of the club. Supervise the accounting functions and directly assist the
General Manager on all strategic matters relating to budget management, cost-benefit analysis,
forecasting needs and internal control. Develop policies to control and coordinate accounting,
auditing, budgets, taxes and related activities and records; develop, establish and administer
procedures and systems pertaining to financial matters. Prepare financial statements, forecasts and
analyses for all administrative and managerial functions. Maintain all accounting records; develop,
analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information. Evaluate operating results for costs,
revenues, budgets, policies of operations, trends and increased profit possibilities. Serve as liaison to
the Finance Committee and Board of Governors. Supervise the staffing, scheduling, training and
professional development of department members.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervises all accounting and financial records for the Club’s operation.
2. Verifies that all insurance records on all Club property are maintained.
3. Formulates accounting processes and procedures for the Club.
4. Provides information to the General Manager, department heads and various Club
committees on the financial condition of the Club and its various departments.
5. Analyzes Club records at periodic intervals to determine adherence to financial controls that
the Club has established.
6. Prepares, or supervises preparation of Federal, State and local tax returns.
Prepares/supervises the preparation of, and verifies any reports made to agencies, trade or
professional organizations whose dissemination is consistent with Club policies.
7. Reconciles the food and beverage inventories discrepancies with the food & beverage
managers.
8. Prepares and analyzes monthly Financial Statements, Capital Improvements Schedule,
Initiation Fee Schedule, Forecast and other schedules. Distributes the Financial Statements
to the General Manager, department heads, Finance Committee and the Board of Governors.
9. Coordinates the preparation of the Club’s budget process. Assists Department Heads in the
preparation of their budgets. Complies the budget and works directly with the General
Manager and Finance Committee in reviewing and revising the Budget.
10. Prepares /supervises the preparation the working papers and analyzes of all asset and liability
accounts and coordinates the annual audit with the Club’s audit firm.
11. Work with the Club’s 401k plan provider, recommending changes in investment choices,
supervise the enrollment of eligible employees, and maintain bi-weekly workup of payroll
contributions and on-line submittal.
12. Administrator of Club’s medical, dental, life insurance and LTD plans. Working with and
meeting with brokers for annual renewals and benefits and premium reviews. Supervise the
enrolling of eligible employees, maintaining the COBRA system and terminating employees.
13. Recommends the hiring, promotion or dismissal of administrative office staff to the General
Manager.
14. Works with the Club’s outside IT and computer consulting company to resolve problems and
recommend improvements to the Club’s network, POS system, server and workstations.
15. Conducts annual performance appraisal reviews with all office personnel and recommends
salary adjustments to the General Manager.
16. Supervise the approval of invoices, allocating expenses and process Accounts Payable
batches.
17. Supervise the maintaining routine cash activities including the daily cash deposits and
reconciliations.
18. Provides management and department heads with the necessary and timely data to operate
their department efficiently and economically.
19. Supervises and trains office staff personnel to insure efficient and courteous operation of the
department.
20. Answers the phones as needed.
21. Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; Master’s degree with
concentration in business of administration with accounting major and
coursework in financial analysis and auditing is a plus.
At least ten years of professional accounting experience with at least two years
at the Controller level or equivalent in club operations.
Experience supervising a staff/team of accountants and bookkeepers.
Experience with JONAS or comparable software.
Experience overseeing information technology operations a plus.
