Principal’s Message Okay so I blinked and September was done. Despite some hiccups with our computer system we had a fantastic start up. One Book Three Schools got off to a rousing successful start with an evening filled with great activities, great food, great people and a wonderful book. Enjoy the reading and we cannot wait to see you at the finale on November 24 at 6PM here at the school. Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up very quickly on October 7 and 8. We will go from 3:30pm to 5:00PM and resume at 5:30PM till 8:30PM on Wednesday, October 7. We will finish up on October 8 from 8:30AM until 11:00AM. October 19 will also be a very exciting day around here and, indeed, for Canada as we will be electing a government. For those of you who have experienced and election at the school, you will know how busy it gets around here. We had an excellent turnout for our running club at the Dawe run and we had some amazing racers place very well at the run. Volleyball is off to a roaring start as well and our students will be entering the very busy tournament season… Go Wildcats. We have just completed our Terry Fox activities. The students and staff had an absolute ball taking part in this amazing day. I am certain October will fly by as fast as September did and before you know it, Halloween will be upon us. School Day

Monday to Friday — 8:07am to 2:37pm Lunch and noon recess are from 11:40 am. - 12:10pm. School supervision starts at 8:00am. After school, students who are not taking part in a supervised activity should leave the school by 3:00pm.

When leaving the school during the day: Students need to check out at the office when leaving the school for an appointment or if they are going home sick. We also need to hear from the parent when a child leaves the school. Please call or send a note. When students return to school from an appointment or are late coming to school they need to come in to the office to fill out a late slip. Parents, please let the Office know when your child is away due to illness or going on vacation. Attendance Line: 403-343-2737

School Fees Please watch out for a fee sheet which will be coming home with your child near the end of October/beginning of November. It will include the general instructional fee of $50 plus the fees for options your child is enrolled in, and school lock or gym clothes if purchased from the school. Cash, cheque or money order is accepted, payable to Westpark Middle School.

Westpark Gym Strip To purchase gym gear is not an expectation, but students must change their clothes for Phys. Ed. classes. Gym wear will be available for purchase at the office for $25.00 (shorts—$15.00 and shirts are $10.00).

WMS Fundraiser Volunteers Needed! Sunday, October 18th & Monday, October 19th, 2015 We will be at the Cash Casino on 67th street (north end of Red Deer). Volunteers will be provided with a meal during your shift..If you have never volunteered at a casino before, it is VERY easy. No experience required. We have an Advisor during the entire event that double checks everything we do and is very helpful.

This is the easiest fundraiser you will ever do and contributes immensely to the activities at our school. Funds from the Casino will be used to help pay for various things including:

Bus - transportation for field trips, class programs, band, athletics - activities that benefit all WPM school students

Outdoor tables & benches

Equipment for phys. ed program, etc.

We have waited a long time to get a casino date, so please support the school by volunteering to work a shift at the casino.

Accessing Gradebook in PowerSchool for Students and Parents

Checking student’s marks:

1. Log in to the WMS webpage: wms.rdpsd.ab.ca.

2. Under Quicklinks, click on PowerSchool.

3. Enter your child’s username and password (this is the same as their school computer login). Your child should know this but if not, please call the school.

4. Click on overall course mark to get a more detailed report. If something is blue, you will be able to open up another screen. Please contact teachers if you have any questions regarding student’s marks.

5. There is a PowerSchool student app (parent app is not active yet but you can use the student app) that can be put on your mobile devices. (IOS and Android). For students with smart devices, please encourage them to install the app. The District code is JBGT.

Ultimate Science Trip 2017! Attention all current

grade 7 students! Selection for the Ultimate Science

Trip 2017 is starting soon! Please be on the lookout for information and applications available near the beginning of November 2015. All applications are to be submitted by November 27th. Students will be selected and notified the first week of December 2015 for their spot on the trip for Spring Break 2017.
